Hi
I want to make my own perfumes using pure essential oils (no toxic chemicals) and I'm looking for beginner book recommendations 😄
I have Googled and have compiled a list of the following books, which seem to have mixed reviews:
Create Your Own Aromatherapy Perfumes: Enchanting Blends for Body and Home - chrissie wildwood
Natural Perfumes: Simple Aromatherapy Recipes
Create Your Own Perfumes Using Essential Oils - Wildwood Chrissie 1995 hardback
Make Your Own Perfume: How to Create Own Fragrances to Suit Mood Character and lifestyle - sally hornsey
Introduction to Perfumery - tony curtis
Great Secrets Of Perfume Making At Home - Yessa B. Freeman
Personalized Perfumes: More Than 40 Recipes for Making Fragrances With Essential Oils - gail duff
Can you recommend any of these books, or (hopefully) any others please?
Thanks 😄

i dont make perfume (as such)
i make solid perfume as well as a host of other "smelly" things:^O
but what i did want to say was
seldom do you ever get everything you want in ONE book
for anything really not just perfume making
in our library you can order books even if they dont have them in your branch
its a great way to see what each book offers and whether its any good to you before you buy it
and the net is invaluable, its like having a thousand books in front of you without a huge expense

I really don't mind buying a few books (I love books) but I don't want ones that waffle on in length about the history of perfumes for instance - I'd like to read a page or so about that, but then I want to get on and learn how to make the fragrances 😄

i'm also a lover of books, but where as i have 500, i would have ended up with 5000 had i not been at least a little choosy:^O
have you looked to see if there is a course near you?
sometimes there are 2 day courses
you learn the basics but would also meet like minded peeps to share tips with

Yes I would love that, and I've had a look online Merlin, and couldn't find a course in South Devon (I did find a hen party one afternoon course in Exeter, but that's not what I'm after)

*Shameless bump in the hopes that there are some fragrance makers out there*

I have made a few, but the results have been disappointing just because I didn't have the right mix of essential oils (was trying to use what I had rather than what I would have chosen)
http://www.thecheapskatemom.com/make-your-own-perfume/ Has a range of links for making assorted fragrances. Rubbing alcohol is American for surgical spirit, and needs a lot of essential oil to cover its own medicinal scent but I'm sure if I ever got the balance right it would be a good base.
Oil based perfumes using sweet almond oil are worth making because you can easily turn them into solid perfumes with a bit of beeswax. I made a lavender one when my oldest daughter was small and filled an old lip balm tube so it was easy to apply to her wrists and temples at bedtime to help make her sleep. I'm not sure it worked, but it smelt nice 😄
The Natural Beauty recipe book by Gill Farrer-Halls is good for not just natural scents, but soap/lotions/shampoo etc recipes, but to follow them exactly would be expensive in my opinion so I just use it as a guide.
If you want to get really into it and make your own extracts by distillation then you will need a good book, but otherwise I'd just scan the net and print off a variety of useful pages to put in a binder and save your money for the ingredients.

Many thanks Elphaba, that's all useful info 😄
I've just found the 'make your own zone' within the link you gave and I'm hooked already!
