Diabetec cat - how to dispose of syringes...

Morning all.

Our youngest cat has diabetes and has 2 injections a day. At the moment we have a large disposal box for the syringes but the vet charge us for the box.

How does anyone else dispose of their syringes? I was thinking of buying a cheaper box online.

Any help appreciated!

The charge for the box, is actually a charge for disposal of medical waste (the used needles etc), which you would still have to pay even if you bought a box, so you may end up paying more in the long run.

 I just used to take mine back to the vet every month or so  - capped, of course. He never charged me for it - I suppose as he sold them to me he may have thought he was making enough....

Thanks - that actually does make sense.

Shame I can't send the cat out to earn some money to pay for it all! Luckily she's in good health, fit and lively (apart from the diabetes).

Thanks duck. Interesting how varied the disposal is across the country. Did a bit of googling before posting here.

It varies across the country for people too.

Son at Uni in Wales got a piddling little needle box, one a month and was supposed to ring the Council to get them disposed of  but the Council said the Doctor should do it(different towns).  Here he gets a good sized bin, lasts 3-6 months, council collect and deliver and when he came home they gave us 2!!!

I asked the doctors to take mine and the receptionists eyeballs nearly fell out!!!

the chemist take my box, you could ask there I suppose.

one of our beloved dogs had diabetes, I had to inject him once a day, he was such a good boy and never complained.

local chemist also tkes them here so may pay to ask them

Dad and I do poor Matty though she seems more wary of his attempts. She always seems rather more resigned when I come along with the needle.
