Dementia

Hi,

Can anyone involved with caring for someone with dementia help please?

My FIL loses track of what day it is, so we are looking for a battery operated calendar without too much information on it (not temperature etc) Just need day, date and month. Not too big, but nice and clear.

Have done a lot of searching and found some perfect ones, but the prices are just ridiculous - especially those recommended by Dementia care or Alzheimers Society.

Looking at anything from £80 - £200.

Off out now as it is OH's birthday, but will check back later. All help appreciated.

Re: Dementia

Hi Learning,

Interesting you say those recommended by the Alzheimers Society are expensive.  I will give feedback on that to them as I have connections with them and this is somethingwe are looking to improve on.

In the mean time, what about this:

Re: Dementia

Have looked at that one, but it has poor reviews. Numbers stick and have to be changed manually.

A better version of that would be great if the date changed automatically.

Re: Dementia

I have a 'normal' digital clock that gives time in big digits & day & date in small digits  - would that sort of thing be suitable?  I can look for the make.. ..

Re: Dementia

Maybe Wizi - depends how clear it is.

Would actually prefer just a calendar if such a thing is available.

About the "too much info" - perhaps you could mask the temperature and the seconds with tape?

Something else that might work - some digital photoframes also have a calendar and clock, though I haven't seen one myself and there don't seem to be any pictures of that functionality.

Re: Dementia

Not sure Duck.

FIL now has all his medication in a Medipack /Dossette box, so needs to be really clear what day it is to take the right meds. Bit of a nightmare as ordinary calendars are useless, he doesn't buy a newspaper, and can't use teletext or TV guide.

Can't think of anything else.

Re: Dementia

Carers will prompt CG. But at the moment, carers are only available short term as a leaving hospital package. May not have them long term if he is assessed not to need them.

Re: Dementia

Top one in this search (ends five-ish today)?  But the clock is analogue.
