DNA Test anyone?

As anyone actually tried one of these new Personal DNA Tests that are now available?

If so, what did you think about it?

There was something on the telly about them but I didn't catch it all. What I did get was that they are apparently very unreliable.

I have no knowledge of anyone other than tv people taking these tests, but if they were slightly less expensive I would be there like a shot!!  It  intreagues me where we come from and, having done a family tree back as far as I can go I was rather disappointed that I seem to be solidly English, with nothing in the slightest exotic in there.  It would be fascinating to go back into the dim and dark depths of pre-history to find that bits of me were on the go then!

Isn't that the one that you buy then pay the £99 "processing fee" afterwards?

There's quite a bit involved in analysis of DNA, & the more you want to know, the more time it takes, & so the more costly it becomes

We had a basic DNA analysis done on our 2 rescue pups, & yes, the results are fascinating!

Why would that be so?  DNA is fundamentally very simple. It's just strands of four repeating A,G,C and T nucleotides. These can be quickly detected using modern techniques. And efficiently recorded in full description, on an inexpensive, 4-gigabyte computer HD.

So the cost really doesn't really come into it.  Unless, it's to make people pay more money than they need to?

DNA Test anyone?

I keep getting tempted to do the dna test that has recently been available here from USA. 123and me I think?

I kind of think of it as a health mot, but I am hesitant to do it purely as I think it's maybe not worth doing? I am not sure how accurate the results are, so I often find myself checking feedback/comments about the test.

I asked my brother (former dna scientist) and he wasn't particularly for or against it, which I found weird (I maybe thought he would say it's a load of carp)

One reason I would do it is because I would want to check my kids out. My MIL died of something heredetary and my OH and kids  should get checked out at some stage in the future.

I feel the cost is not extortionate, but that it's only worthwhile if the test is fairly accurate. So I am just on the fence!!

That's true.  If we knew what would happen further down the road of life, we'd see that the road finally leads to Death.

That would have a depressing effect.  So it's better to just carry on from day to day, enjoying the road while it lasts.
