I have seen this on a few auctions
The item is described in the title as BNWT (Brand New With Tags)
Then at the bottom of the description, it is stated that all tags will be removed before posting.
Technically, the item received is not as described in the title.
Also, what is the point of this exercise?

To save on postage maybe? Though it probably wouldn't make any difference, one little label or tag. Or maybe advertised as brand new with tags when it isn't. I'd leave the tag on if it were me if only to prove as far as possible that the item was new, as described.

companies remove the tags if there is something wrong with the item. I've been had a couple of times buying clothing BNWT only to find there was something wrong...one item had the lining sewn into the seam of the coat so I had to cut it with scissors to get it to lie right. I didn't complain as I could fix it and it was a bargain. I did though with a long top I bought.

To me BNWT is brand new with tags - remove the tag and it is not BNWT it is BNWOT. BNWT. Items that are BNWT generally get higher prices as the implication is that it is blooming hard to wear an item with a tag on it.
There may be some who think that others may be trying to pass off their BNWOT as being with BNWT and get a higher price.
On the other hand there are some legitimate ex-highstreet brand clothes that have the cloth name labels defaced/ removed to prevent in-store returns as they are excess stock sold off at a much cheaper price.
