Ah well.  Xmas tree is in the loft - somewhere.  The haal will be painted eventually.  After that the furniture will be moved, enough stuff will be put away to make room and the tree will be put up - if we can find it.  If not we won't bother 'cos with OH's larger TV, son's piano and a 2 year old i'm probably going to regret finding it anyways.  Since I do know where the big one is I may allow daughter and son to put it up in the spare bedroom.

Ed, I have three tiny hooks in, you know the kind you used when we all had net curtains? you used a wee hook on the wire and had a round one in the window? well get a small hook and screw it into the fireplace, one either end, and one in the middle. They are there all year round, you don't notice them, or you could just take them out and put them back each year. I use the middle one all year round and change what I hang on it depending on the time of year.

That swag is over 20yrs old now, all the stuff on it is glued on, except the big stockings.

I know it means screwing into your fireplace but it's such a tiny hole and you can't see it.

ooops forgot to say, find the middle of the wreath and put a piece of wire round it,make a loop, use that to hang it from, then get it how you like it to "swag" down, and tie a bit of wire for the end bits....simples!

Thanks CB, sadly our fireplace is stone effect composite stuff (we didn't choose it it was here when we moved in) it looks great but it means I cant screw anything into it.  Back to the drawing board, just have to put it  over the mantlepiece again it looks good anyway.

Mine is stone too & I lay the swag across the top & dangle down the sides.

OK then, try using a very small screw, drill the wall, OH won't mind as it's going to be very small. put them either side, then do one right in the middle at the very back of the mantle shelf. I have done this too and it was effective, you couldn't see the screws as we had some stuff on the mantle in the year and the screws are so small either side you won't notice them.

how's that then????

Exactly the reaction I had when I suggested that to hubby, you would think I asked him to build an extention, I have had another idea, involving long butchers hooks and blue tack,  I will cover the butchers hooks with ribbon and hang them over the side, then maybe drape something over the top so you can't see them. Thanks I have learnt to be inventive coming on here.

OH WOW!!

Captain your tree is wonderful.   I challenge anyone not to feel christmassy after seeing your photos.

My old flat had a bay window and I knew just how to decorate the room to make it feel cozy. I had it just right with all my lights hanging up in various places.
Havent got my head around how I'm going to decorate where we are now.  No idea where the tree is going to fit, plus we had new windows put in so can't screw things into the new frames and have a lack of power sockets it seems!

thanks Streety, I'm sure you'll figure it out if you could make your other place cozy you'll do it. I find I get my best ideas while Im waiting to go to sleep. I have a pad and pen by the bed or I forget things.
