Christmas Markets

Just wondered if anyone made trips over the water to France or anywhere else to visit any Christmas Markets?. I have never been to any other than French, they might be more expensive maybe. Its nice to look at other produce from different places. We have had a few in maidstone or stalls nearer Christmas selling food or things in the new arcade we have in town. Its nice there when it gets Christmassy and nice to see how others celebrate it.

Re: Christmas Markets

Visted the Xmas markets at Valkenburg (Holland) - fabulous as most of the stalls are in caves under the town.

The Xmas market at Brugges and at Ostende are also worth a visit.

Re: Christmas Markets

There used to be one in Edinburgh, very good with outdoor skating rink, mulled wine stalls, the lot!

Hoping to have one in Windermere but all European traders selling in the UK must now register for UK VAT following a change in the law earlier this year, so no go I'm afraid

Re: Christmas Markets

they have a Christmas market every year in Llandudno, this year it's 21 to 24th November if you're interested.

It has peeps from abroad, there is a nun who comes from Latvia where they help the sick and addicted, the wooden items are stunning. There are french guys with food for sale, and I think there was someone from Germany selling sausages last year.

It's quite a good fair but I'd like to try a different one as I've been to this one more than once and you see the same stuff.

I believe Bath holds a good market.

Re: Christmas Markets

Stroppy we went to the Brugge one last year after a gap of about ten years and it wasn't very good. All acrylic hats and fake goods.

Re: Christmas Markets

The one I've been to the most is the Rochester one (Kent) which is usually good though very, very busy.

I've also been to Canterbury (no good, cancelled the day before we went, which was disappointing for all

my coach passengers)

Lincoln is very good though extrodinarily busy which takes the edge off it a bit.

There's a good German market in Birmingham most years for those who don't want to go abroad.

Hyde Park in London does a lovely event every year with continental stalls, skating rink, food

and allsorts - again it gets very busy but is nice in the evenings.

I went to one in Saltzburg but it was so long ago I can't remember much about the market, though

remember a lovely shop that sold glass baubles, it looked so lovely.

One of the perks of being a coach driver, being paid to go to Christmas markets!

Re: Christmas Markets

ooohhh Rochester would be nearest to me. I have never even been to Rochester would you believe but i must as i like the olden times sort of places. I love Canterbury it has lots of folklore tales. I want to visit Whitechapel and that sort of area too as its steeped in Victorian spooky tales and goings on!!!!!!!!!.

Re: Christmas Markets

The one in Lille was okay, but I really enjoyed the one in Bath better. We went by coach to the one in Bath and it was really lovely.
