Choice of Garden Fencing?

I am wanting to replace fencing in the garden on one side.  However, I would like the standard type of 5-6ft Wooden Panels, but is it possible not to have the concrete support joints inbetween each panel?

I appreciate that concrete support probably lasts longer, but is there another alternate way, and as anyone had an alternative to concrete support joints, and happy with their choice?

Hoping for some ideas of your experience.

Many thanks

Re: Choice of Garden Fencing?

Sam, when we moved in the panels  at the back of our garden were unpainted, 3 years old and rotton from the bottom until about 18inches up.. We replaced 5 panels painted them every year for  10  years and no problems with rot, sorry.  I think a lot depends on the quality, a £15 panel probably hasn't been properly treated, I know you probably know more about this than me, but from what I can gather the cheaper stuff is sprayed and the dearer stuff is pressure treated or tanilised.  We could only afford cheaper ones at the time but we have had no problems with them apart from the fact they do the mexican wave everytime the wind blows they are so flymsy, that is why we are replacing with tanalised feather edge, one side at a time which we won't paint.
