I covered this subject some months ago when the factory fire happened due to a chinese lantern....but watching REAL RESCUES on BBC1 at the moment has brought the matter back to me. This one chinese lantern caused SIX MILLION pounds worth of damage.
Please spread the word NOT to use chinese lanterns at any time no matter what the celebration. One totally innocent act can cause MILLIONS of pounds of damage - put people's lives and homes and businesses at risk. Plus wildlife/animals will suffer as well.
Sorry to rant about this again but I do think this is a subject that cannot be ignored too likely. A chinese lantern could end up on your roof and completely gut your house.
thanks and please spread the word or if you are somewhere where they are going to let these go please do your best to stop them.

We had a petition in the village along with posters warning people of the dangers of chinese lanterns, there is a danger to animals and property, obviously where we are the more obvious risks are to hay barns and stacks,
When we went for a walk on new years day we saw loads of the metal bits that are left, in hedges and fields, it is just littering, and dangerous.
Well said Tintin.

Like Ed we live in a remote area and the danger to farm and wild animals alike from the remaining bits ot wire and metal tealight holder is unthinkable.
We also had a case locally where as the lantern was being released the wind caught it awkwardly and as it tipped it poured the melted wax over the face of a young child who was standing under it looking upwards

Although they do look very pretty up in the sky the risks just arnt worth it , so yes ban them before any more damage is done

BAN THEM !!

Couldn't agree more. It's just thoughtless of people to release them considering the damage they can cause and the cost as well.

Totally agree with you about the dangers of Chinese and Sky Lanterns, what sane person sends a fire in a paper bag into the air to fall back to earth at Random, there is a huge FaceBook and Twitter campaiagn against them at the moment, got to twitter and search for #banchineselanterns of put Ban Chinese Lanterns into the search bar on FaceBook.
SOONER OR LATER SOMEONE IS GOING TO KILLED AS A RESULT OF THESE THINGS.
Animals both domestic and willd are dieing daily because of them.
Many retailers including Poundland have stopped selling them and many local authourities have banned there use.
I would like to see Ebay refuse to list them but very much doubt that will happen yet.

We have a twitter and Face Book campaign to get these dagerous things banned on twitter search for #banchineselanterns on FaceBook put "Ban Chinese Lanterns they are killing our Animals" into search.
Pounland and many others have told us they have now stopped selling them but many others including Tesco & The Works are still selling in store and online.
