Camera review?

I'm on the lookout for a digital camera.  There appear to be as many cameras out there as there are bicycles.  I once stumbled on a site giving unbias opinions/reviews on newly purchased cameras but can't find it.  If I type in the camera I am after I get all the hype telling me it's the bees knees which is no real help as every ad does the same, but somewhere out there is a sight where owners can write reviews of new cameras purchased which is far more down to earth as they give genuine pros & cons.

Any idea how to get on to such a sight?

I've always searched specifically for a review of a particular camera but what you get might depend on how much the camera costs.

You could look at reviews on the river.

Camera review?

First question is what do you want the camera to do?

If it is just to take photos for eBay then any phone with a camera will do.

If it is for general snaps then I would always buy the one I feel most comfortable with - a trip to a large camera retailer for a play would be called for and, once I have found one I like, then a search on various internet sites like the river for the reviews and the best price.

If it is for really special work then it must be the best I can afford - again, a visit to a B & M store first then a browse on the web.

I use a Canon SX50 bridge camera which has never let me down and is a good jack of all trades.

I got exactly what I wanted.  I've got over 80 items up for sale so for me it is a tool of trade.  High pixel essential.  The one I've got my mind on is the Canon 610  with a megapixel of about 20.  I've had excellent results with a Pentax L60 but the photo electric eye tends to go on them.  I bought one, used, when it packed up but it only lasted me around eight months - same thing.   Shame they no longer sell them brand new.   Experience shows if somebody sells a camera on eBay there's usually a reason - doh.  I'll take anything up to thirty photos of the same item before putting one up on the board.  I never go to to P.C.W...d or somewhere like that because they're not specialised.  Young kids selling a camera and five minutes later trying to sell somebody a washing machine.  It's not their fault, but they just havent got the experience.  That's why I'll go to J....ps and take a long time before buying one.  Look at it, feel it. test it with a £1.00 coin etc. - you can't do that ar A...s.  I've never used a mobile with a camera attachment - they're different things.  My mobile cost me £20 - a cheap pay and go which can't get on to the internet or anything.  But it can make phone calls which is all I want.  My last camera never left the house.  When I went on holiday I used a different one.  Now, If I really wanted a camera I'd buy a Hassleblad!  I haven't got that type of money to waste - or the time to learn how to use it!

Don't get carried away with mega pixels, what matters is how good they are and not how many there are.

I have three DSLR bodies 6, 10 and 16 mp, using the same lens on any of them and you won't see any difference with normal magnifications.

The amount of noise at higher iso levels could be more important.
