Baton down the hatches!

It looks like we're in for some rough weather later today, torrential rain and thunder storms.

My daughter and her family were stuck on the Eurostar for hours last evening, the train having lost all power due to the storms.  I think instead of arriving home around 8pm they didn't get home until well past midnight.

The weather forecast has just said they're just reaching the Kent coast at the moment.Smiley Sad

Still no rain here but it is cloudy at the moment.  It's been like that before and then the sun's come out again.

Yes the hurricane was in 1987.  Where I was working at the time, if we had to ring other companies up which where in the south of England, we just couldn't get through to them because of the hurricane.

We were completely cut off from the world for 4 days in October 1987, no phone, no electricity,  My mum and dad didn't know if our house was still standing or not.  There was no access by road as there were around 100 trees, three deep between us and the cross roads half a mile away.  The boy opposite cut his foot with a chainsaw and luckily it wasn't life-threatening as there was nothing anybody could do.  The army came after four days and got us all sorted!

My memory of the 87 storm is chasing a rabbit hutch ( with bunny in residence) down the garden and then dragging it indoors.)

Bunny was fine and the kids,, who slept through it all ,wanted to know why she was in the dining room in the morning!

We've just had a few spots of rain but only a few spots.  I've got a banging headache andn I think it may thunder sooner than the weather forecasters have predicted.

We had a terrific downpour about an hour ago. (Warwickshire). Lasted about 20 minutes and has really cleared the air.

Our stupid cat heard the rain and insisted on going out to see what it was and then had to run like mad to take shelter under a garden chair until it had stopped. He's now firmly on my lap and doesn't look as if he'll be going out again tonight.

I don't know why they have weather forecasts!  I just looked at one, next week varies between 22 and 24 degrees.  I looked at a different one, that varies between 28 and 35!!!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I've not been able to get a forecast from the Met Office website for days now but the Beeb haven't been much better over the last few days as it's all been to pot.  For some reason though, they have it right at the moment.  That does make a change.

Our rain arrived about midnight, not the forecasted 6p.m. Didnt get enough to fill the water butts though, but at least the gardens have had a drop. It's much fresher here today, thank goodness.

We had about two hours of heavy rain which started around 10pm last night and for the last half hour so, the rain has been non-stop heavy rain.  It's also a lot cooler thankfully.

We've had a couple of thunderstorms this evening and another heavy rain shower.  It's also a lot cooler.  At least getting to sleep tonight should be a lot easier because it feels much better.  We've had rain forecast on for this coming week.  It's still going to be warm though.
