Baton down the hatches!

It looks like we're in for some rough weather later today, torrential rain and thunder storms.

My daughter and her family were stuck on the Eurostar for hours last evening, the train having lost all power due to the storms.  I think instead of arriving home around 8pm they didn't get home until well past midnight.

The weather forecast has just said they're just reaching the Kent coast at the moment.Smiley Sad

Re: Baton down the hatches!

It's too hot here at the moment.  We've been forecast heavy rain for tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday but with temperatures of around 22 degrees.  I bet we get thunder as well which would be a blessing as hopefully, it should clear the air.

Re: Baton down the hatches!

It's supposed to reach the East Coast about 6p.m. The gardens need some rain and my water butts need filling up again, so I'm not complaining.

Re: Baton down the hatches!

No, I'm not complaining, although I'm not that keen on storms and Lottie definitely isn't!  We need the rain, our grass is dead, our water tanks are empty, but living where we do I wouldn't be surprised if it missed us again!!

Re: Baton down the hatches!

Our gardens, lawn and water butt are also in dire need of rain and a lot of it too.  It's very humid here at the moment and it's too hot to do anything outside.  I've tried to do some gardening even raking some of the compacted soil in the front garden so that if it does rain, it shouldn't be too bad - says she living in hopes

Re: Baton down the hatches!

We had a thunder storm 3 nights ago, accompanied by a deluge, so our ground is still quite wet, & rain forecast the next couple of days.

Re: Baton down the hatches!

We had the shortest of thunder storms on Tuesday morning.  Altogether, there were three flashes of lightning and three claps of thunder.  There was a little bit of rain with the storm and another light shower at around 9am.  We also one almighty downpour at 3am on Wednesday morning and that was it.  Just wish that it would cool down a bit.

Re: Baton down the hatches!

We were expecting torrential rain when we got up, never arrived, hotter and stickier than ever.  Now have about 3 drops a minute though it could be on it's way.  Need a couple of days of nice gentle sticky rain for the grass.

Re: Baton down the hatches!

It's been really hot here again all morning (just south of Guildford) but we've been told to expect the rain by 4pm.
It's now nearly 5pm and it's cooler with a grey sky outside, but no rain yet.  I will wait and see

Re: Baton down the hatches!

our forecast was for heavy rain starting at 3pm and going  till the wee hours.. so I went outside, folded up the chairs, took  the brolly into the shed, got the washing in and the pegs,, folded down the line moved some more delicate plants nearer the wall.. Checked the soakaway drains were clear and waited for the deluge.

It rained at 3.30... and stopped again at 3.32..

hope we get some more soon, the garden is parched and the air is heavy. yeuk.
