Whilst out walking the dog down the common this afternoon I realised that within the next week or so the blackberries will be out in force.
My question is....if I pick some what can I do with them (I am not a jam maker or eater so wont be using them for this).
I only have a small freezer so need to find ways of making things with them that wont take up too much room. If I had a chest freezer then I would freeze them individually but not able to)
I am hoping that yourlovely ladies (and gentlemen) will be able to point me in the direction of how to use them wisely
There are also a few crab apple trees on the walk as well so I am assuming that I can use these as well provided they are cooked and sweetened???
Any help would be greatfully received.

I do find the shortbread keeps really well in the fridge. I made it so much last year! I left out the walnuts as im allergic and its fine without. It looks super dusted with a little icing sugar. A slice of that and a cup of tea is just sheer bliss.

Captain Bovine.............loving the look of the blackberry shortcakes. I am going to write down this recipe and have a go at making them. A most unusual choice of fruit to use...but as I have all the other ingredients in the cupboard anyway and the blackberries are free of charge they are sure to taste even more delicious. Will let you know what the taste like when they are made...

Hi everyone, I was just thinking it's almost time to post the famous blackberry shortcake recipe but
Captain's beaten me to it! Thanks Captain, I've been away to am a bit late.
That actually started out as a gooseberry shortcake recipe but you can use more or less any fruit
you like. But my favourite by far is blackberries. It freezes very well too but doesn't usually make
it as far as the freezer without being eaten!

Just to let you know that I have made the blackberry shortbread, without the blackberries as I have not yet been blackberry picking, but instead used raspberries and blueberries which I had lurking in the fridge. Have to say it is delicious - not sure whether any of it is actually going to make the freezer...hey ho....will do this again when I get the blackberries in a week or so.

Oh honestly, how times have changed - every time I talk about blackberries my son says he
thinks I'm talking about phones! It wasn't like that in the olden days, a blackberry meant a
yummy little berry thing!
One would think he'd know when I said I wanted to make blackberry shortcake!

Captain, you are rood!
But funny!
My son's always farting, but he says "safety" afterwards which apparently makes it
excuseable!

The blackberries round here are not really ripe yet, they'll be another week or so at
least I reckon.
