Anyone gone interrailing as an adult?

Really just speculating but as we haven't been on holiday for years I'm looking at alternative ways to travel. My daughter is 18 and at uni and I'm considerably older but quite like the idea of us both jumping on a train here in South Wales and seeing some of the world. Would especially like to go to Paris, Rome and Pompeii. Anyone any experience of this kind of trip? How much booking in advance is needed for trains and accommodation?

thanks, I've done lots of googling but was hoping to hear from people who had travelled this way.

OH & I travelled around Germany/Austria & Switzerland

It was fantastic fun - go for it

Train travel is much more pleasant on the continental system

We didn't prebook but looked for b&b as soon as we arrived - tourist offices are very good

That's how we ended up staying in Munich's red light street 😄

It does sound like a fun way to travel. Looks like I need to get our passports sorted.

My daughter needs a new one anyway as she will be touring with the university orchestra in June.
