I'm not going to be very helpful Gina...I'm 57 & for a good while years ago, I tried to stick with it...but I'm sorry to say, my W.I. were the most old-fashiond boring bunch of females I've ever come across...& they just didn't know what to make of me.
They were also a very clique, back-biting, gossiping bunch of nasty females.
I'm glad I got that off me chest... (other Women's Institutes are available ):womanlol:

well Merc, I think I'd be the same if I ever joined a group!
I've been way laid by the local WI to make cakes for their stall in the local show this Saturday, seems the usual lady is ill or something, methinks she's backed out now they know there's a new nutter in the vacinity who may do it......couldn't be me that could it????? I'm doomed aren't I?
next door neighbour said the same about the WI, they weren't very nice to her when she tried to join, she left after a couple of months of being basically ignored.

Gina i would expect he area you are in to be different to the more rural ones,
have a google see if they have an active local media presence and you may see more idea of the stuff they do
maybe you'll know someone in the locale

They do vary. We have two here as one 'broke away' & is quite go getting & has much younger members. Not a member myself as I have too much time taken up with SW Quilters.

Went to a meeting of our local rural WI a few years ago with a view to joining I was 50 at the time, and the youngest member was 79, they looked me up and down, and said as I was so young !!! maybe I would be better off joining the one in the next village as they were more modern !.
I gave up after that maybe when I am 75 I will give it a go. Didn't want to try somewhere out of the village where I would always be known as the foreigner, besides my 4x4 wasn't quite big enough.
Sorry cynical view, but they were advertising on a National basis at this time for younger members and I thought they would be pleased to see me. - wrong.

Mever been a member of the WI but where we lived about 15 years ago I was a member of the National Women's Register. I know all groups/area are different but this group was very welcoming. There might be a group near you

Im really surprised to hear of bitchiness in the WI s. Not good is it. i go to their markets sometimes in town on a thursday as i like the cakes and would like to maybe think of a club to join but i do not think i will go to them now ha ha. they need a younger outlook now come on . Few more of those calendars would not go amiss to be modestly modern. i dont mean sleaze either.
. Women alone or otherwise need something to join but do not want nastiness oohh dear. come on women we have to unite !!
