Any ideas of ferry costs to the Isle Of Wight?

Morning all,

We're thinking of going to the Isle Of Wight next August for a week's holiday.

When I've tried getting a quote it won't allow me to go beyond the end of this year...

Has anyone got a rough idea of the cost for a car with 4 passengers (return journey) from Portsmouth?

Just need to get ideas of costs..

many thanks

If you can get a quote for now, then add something like 5 - 8% to be on the safe side, that should give you an idea.

Its approx £60 each way for 2 adults and 2 kids now.

Can't see it going up too much by next year, Budget for a 10% rise as a

worse case scenario.

I've done this a few times and I've found that Lymington to Yarmouth is often slightly cheaper and always has a lot less traffic congestion at both ends as it's the only route that avoids major towns; we always go this way when visiting my wife's best friend in Cowes even though we live near London ( meaning Lymington is the furthest of the three ports from us ) and it is often quicker that way round to Cowes!

Thing to remember about both Southampton and Portsmouth is that the IOW ferryports are in the Cities,  Lymington is actually out of town(across the river) and so you avoid the tourist traffic into it as well as getting a nice run through the forest as well..

Re: Any ideas of ferry costs to the Isle Of Wight?

If you book your ferry crossing through the hotel/guest house/campsite you will be staying at you get a discount of around 50%.

For example, we went to Warners at Bembridge last July and the ferry for 2 adults + car would have been £96.00 return.

Booked the same crossing through the Warners website when we booked our holiday and got it for £45.00.

Cowes is in the middle of town as well - Yarmouth is a very quiet place, so Lympington - Yarmouth is the only route which is rural at both ends.

Ah but siting of IOW terminus is fairly irrelevant(except during Cowes week) if you can't get to the ferry because of traffic/roadworks.  With a car i would always prefer Lymington/Yarmouth but do like the longer Southampton boat crossing, especially walking since I live here!.

Guardpig, when I go from Southampton it's as a foot passenger on the fast one - especially if the are using RJ3 as that's the most fun one to ride on... Smiley Happy
