Another question. This time Conservatorys

Hi all
Sorry another question for you

We have a south facing conservatory, which gets stupidly hot & unusable in the summer.

I did consider having a false ceiling put in to stop some of the heat getting through but my son in law pointed out 2 disadvantages to this a) it would make the ceiling fairly low & b) we would still get the heat as it would be trapped between ghe false ceiling & the roof.
I've looked into a couple of options, 1 being the strips that you have placed into the roof and the other being a film that goes on the glass. Has anyone tried either of these options and, if so, what are your opinions on them. I think they are both fairly expensive (for some reason I'm guessing that the film will be the cheaper option) but don't want to waste money on something that doesn't work. Will happily pay if the system does the job though

Neighbour used to drape sheets across under the roof.  Looked a bit like those idealised nomadic arab tents on the old romantic errol flynn era films!.ie impractical and silly but apparently it worked and was cheap.

We have wanted/planned a conservatory since we moved in here but change our minds every time we have a spell of hot weather LOL.

When we had ours built we spent about £4,000 on special ceiling blinds by Thomas Sanderson (recommended by Anglian) which were meant to shut out a lot of the sun therefore eliminating some of the heat. Yeah right! I've been in colder saunas.
