It appears that there may be a very good chance of seeing the Northern Lights tonight - so if you're about and it's dark enough, might be worth having a looksee.

Oh what a shame, it is very dark here and I shall be up for work at 3am, but sadly I live in Devon so I wont get chance to see them.

But you might - the show is potentially going to be far more south than usual.
So if you are up at such an unearthly hour, maybe keep an eye on the northern skies.

Might have a look out later and see if we can see them.

I doubt Devon or Dorset will be able to see them. They mention the Cotswolds as being the southern limit.

You should be in with a good chance CB.
Wait until it's as dark as it can get where you are.
Most of the street lights go off at midnight our way, and we do have a bit of 'glow' from the distant motorway, but I'm going to see if I can see anything and even may try a piccie or two if there is a show.

Living in the NE of Scotland we have seen them a few times, but it is still such a thrill to see them. Several years ago we got a lovely display the night my grandson was born, I said it was a sign that he would be "special" and to us he is very special. Hope you all get a good view it is an amazing experience.

One day I'm going to come up to Scotland to make sure I can see them.
Went out but although the street lights are out, so many houses have their external lights on, it's a very bright moon, too many houses in the way so couldn't get a good view north and there's still light pollution from a distant town or whatever.

That would be a journey and a half - I don't fancy flying as it does me bod in - so would have to be the ferry, when it's operating.

i have family on the shetlands, they see them quite a bit
i think the ferry is a fairly regular one,
though they tend to fly more these days
a few friends took the cruise tours up norway and where happy with the sights

Pitch black here this morning but sadly thick cloud and rain, so no lights, I did watch the stargazing live programme last night and saw them live over Norway and somebody had emailed a photo of the southern lights taken that morning our time.
What a fascinating programme, well done the BBC.

I couldn't stay up long enough.
My friend who lives close by , but on the canal, so no lights near her, so them at just after midnight, she said they where not as good as 25 years ago. We live near North West coast at Morecambe Bay, I saw them when i was a young lass in the early 1960s.
It was too cloudy last night to see a thing

Sod the lights after the storm ! Was more worried about the water running into the spare bedroom through the ceiling as we lost 36 slates in the storm.

sympathies about the missing slates, we lost a load as well! also the bottom of the back door is smashed and the 4 douglas fir trees that fell down in the previous storm still need clearing away. we find it really hard to get any workmen to do anything where we live so looks like we will be spending the next 12 months clearing up from the storms and getting ready for the next lot. |Also forgot to look out for the lights!
