I used to know someone who restored those sorts of cars, died a while ago unfortunately.
I recognise the view, I may have been there.

That wasn't Julian Grimwade you knew was it, by any chance...? The car man?
As for the view - yes, you probably have. Lymington to Yarmouth.

No, he died about 10 years ago now, his last car was a Daimler saloon. And yes, I stood at a different location around there.

Daimler saloon? You mean one of those impressive big ones often used as limousines in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s?
02-12-2025 11:32 AM
The ones from the 30s.

Oh crikey, that's impressive! 🙂

It was definitely a beauty!

The Principal at my school in the 1980s had one of those big Bentley Mk 6 types from the 1950s; he was renowned for the speed with which he went along the country roads surrounding the school...!!

Nice, I saw a MK2 in the same garage as the Daimler, there was another one, but I can't remember what it was.
05-12-2025 12:06 AM
Mk 2? Is that the one with the funny looking "bubble" top?
08-12-2025 3:55 PM
And the sloping back!

Bit of a sense of the inspiration for a certain Rolls Royce in a well known animated pupperty action TV series, wouldn't you think? 🙂

Well, it seems the time is almost at hand, the farm in my area, Stonehouse Farm, is probably going to get demolished very soon! 1685... over 340 years of my town's history, to be destroyed by greed and local government corruption.
19-01-2026 9:41 PM
What?!?!?!?
Which philistines approved that?!?!?
21-01-2026 11:43 AM
Peel Group... sorry, I mean, Wigan Council! They've been selling off our local Greenbelt land left right and centre, this farmhouse is surrounded by Greenbelt land that acts as the main floodplain for the area! An old development on the adjacent floodplain has been causing major flooding on the road every time it rains for a bit.... and that was a tiny development! This takes over 4 whole field systems, plus the stream that goes through the field is the run-off for a brook at the centre of the suburb of our town, so they're going to experience flooding from the brook backing up.
So yeah, Wigan Council doing everything it can to make our lives miserable!
21-01-2026 9:38 PM
OMG - and how exactly do they expect this development to be acceptable? I assume they aren't going to be building it on stilts...
22-01-2026 10:45 AM
No, the water is just going to pool and flood the lane... again.
22-01-2026 11:15 PM
Never learn, do they...?
26-01-2026 11:00 AM
Correction...... they just don't care!!
26-01-2026 10:04 PM
Good point...
