Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

I'll have a search see if they have it up, hopefully they will give some good news.... like it's being reopened for trains!

Anyway, as you saw, the path is almost done, it's basically just a puddle left to fill, I'm pretty much done with the thick mud section, though one side that is still a bit thick, but it should still just be enough with one bag of 20mm... he says..... then the rest just needs a few bags of 10mm for covering, if not just 2 bags, considering how far each bag spreads, then it's all done! Though I ain't doing the other parts of the path, wayyy too much mud and wayyy to large an area for me to do by myself!

Ah - you obviously saw my reply to your tweet! 🙂

Yes, it's made a huge difference...

...and a re-opening would be very nice indeed.

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

I won't be going down this weekend, most likely go on the 25th, so they'll just have to put up with the little bit that's left for just under 3 weeks!

It would be great to see it reopen to trains, but I know they'll whinge and moan about the costs, without thinkng about the costs of them not doing so! It costs more in local road repair each year, and then of course the congestion, noise and air pollution, which the line would help alleviate. It would also help reduce things even more if they'd reopen the nearby station too!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

That's true of everything.

I know of one case where the MD of a TOC had a plan to increase revenue by £3 million a year; it was a soilid plan that was properly researched and costed and the additional revenue could be proven to be there for the taking.

The DfT blocked the plan because it required expenditure of £1 million ( a one off expenditure ) to make it happen...

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

It's how it goes. They don't seem to realise in order to make money, it is required to spend money!

Again similar with the Wigan, Tyldesley & Eccles line, they complained it was going to cost 70% more to reinstate than the bus lane, yet installing the bus lane, cost over 70% more getting instated, it hasn't increased the use of buses and hasn't decreased the amount of congestion on the roads like they said it would, congestion has gotten far worse, regularly to levels that I normally only ever saw when there was a serious accident further up the road. Just like the Great Musgrave bridge incident, their own report stated that the bus lane was the worse possible option, have the highest negative impact on local roads and the least benefits to passengers, rail was the best, so obviously they went with the bus lane.

Anyway, I'll be flinging the Secretary of State for Transport a tweet to see if he can help getting rid of our worthless bus lane, as well as try getting the railway reinstated, along with anything else I can think of!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

I'd be very surprised if Axeman Harper even sees your tweet...

...but you may well find his departmental e-address on the ceo email website.  That would have a better chance.

Actually - tweet it as well; at least multiple others will see it.

I actually already do have his email address, so I can add that to my quest!

Ha!  Useful! 🙂

You will have to report back with what you can establish.

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

On another note, paid my CC bill last night, it wasn't nearly as much as I had thought it was going to be, so I may just decide to go finish off the path this Sunday, well, finish off laying the 20mm layer at least, might be able to rope my older brother into helping as well. Two more bags of 20mm should do it I think, I'll go back on Saturday and have a look see how wide the gap is!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Weather forecast isn't looking too bad for tomorrow, so it may well be a very good opportunity.

Sunday, however, is looking wetter - at least down here in the south.  I'd suggest checking for the relevant area first...

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Very nice, especially the horse-drawn tram one!

As you saw in my pic, the path is virtually done and I was right, I needed two bags of 20mm for that small section, I also put down a bag of 10mm, which actually covered an area of about 2.3m, so I might just need two more bags, or at most, three to make it more substantial!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Yes, it looks much improved now - it actually looks like a path.

Any more sign of those official looking bods?

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Yep, you changed some characters to white.

Anyway, path almost done, looking at it this weekend after I put down the two 10mm gravel bags, the one side is still a tad muddy... probably wouldn't need the whole bag of 20mm, but who's to say!? I'll definitely drop another bag of 10mm this Sunday, but may go get another 20mm bag if I feel it's warranted!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Ha ha yes, the old white text trick - rather easy to detect by highlighting, of course.  I'll have to try to think of a way round that.

Regarding the path - if in doubt, put the extra down.  It'll give that little bit more clearance from the mud won't it?
