Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Well, the carboot sale was definitely on, but.... oh my, was it ever manic! Not sure why, the reasons seemed to vary, but another much larger carboot sale in Bolton was closed for the day, so all the sellers from that came to ours.

I arrived just after 7am, took me over 10min to get into the parking area, the entire parking area was full, just a few spaces left, the entire filed was full, so other stalls had to line up  along side the parking area. Took me several hours to get through, on my way back, the other field was full of parked cars, the road outside the entrance was surrounded by cars.... it's been a few years since I last saw so many cars and sellers there!

Good grief!

That sounds a bit manic!!  Guess busy is good at any kind of sale, though...

Busy is busy, sadly it didn't mean there was any additional variety though, was more same stuff, more sellers!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

I actually bought more stuff yesterday with just half the field full of sellers, than I did with the place overflowing with sellers last Sunday!

Sadly the guy with the gravel wasn't here this weekend, I wanted tu buy a bag or two so I could lay it down at a mud-spot on the path up to the Pretoria Pit, seeing as Bolton Council are not doing anything about it!

I would hope that if you did that you would subsequently invoice the council for the bags of gravel and add £50 an hour for your time...!!

It's OK, I can always 'borrow' gravel from my local Misguided Busway, nobody's using it anyway 😉

Oh dear, are councils still persisting with those things?!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Ours definitely is, though they had to reduce the number of services on the guided bus lane, as not that many people are using it. Obviously people do use it, mainly as they cancelled the normal services in order to force people to switch to using the guided bus lane... though it's only guided from Leigh to Ellenbrook, then it switches to the A580 aka East Lancashire Road on into Manchester, which has cause major traffic congestion along the route! It used to be that only a severe accident would cause a traffic jam from the Irlams O' Th' Height turnoff, since the buslane was installed on the Lancs, it's become a regular ocurrance to begin queuing up from there, or even sooner at the A5186 turnoff! The buslane was supposed to reduce congestion on the Lancs, along with reduce air pollution in the process... epic fail!

That's normal with this kind of scheme, unfortunately...

Yet they keep doing them! Now they're making a lot of Manchester roads bus/taxi/bike only! Now if only they would reinstate the numerous railway linesand stations that go into Manchester, we could leave our cars at home and that would solve the problem!

Not just in Manchester, but a host of other places as well...

Indeed, allowing the closure of all the feeder lines was really stupid in the long run!

Anyway, I enjoyed my time in the mining gallery, very rare thing to exist in these days!

Have you also visited the drift mine at Beamish?

The whole of the rest of Beamish will appeal to you as well...

A while ago, but I don't remember much of it, probably should go again if and when I'm in the area!

If it was a while ago then you definitely should go again because they're always improving it; no doubt you saw my photos on Twitter from my recent visit there?

Darn Covid has wiped me out, I'm now really exhausted ragardless of the rest I get. Not been able to go anywhere this weekend, though I can now get myself a bag of gravel or two from Homebase or B&Q and I can go this next weekend to Pretoria Pit and lay it down on the path area where it's just mush!

Better than some of mine 😂

I've also made a small walkway from a couple of pallets I had in my back garden, just in case the gravel isn't enough.... most likely won't be enough, but it's a start in comparison to what Bolton Council is, or make that, isn't doing!

That is hardly a surprise; councils are renowned for either doing nothing or for doing something inadequately...
