I see. I walked from Euston station to Westminster Hall, did think about taking the tube, but the services in and around there had been halted... also considered getting one of those electric scooter hires, I decided just to walk! My legs were sooo knackered after the wait overnight and after the parade down past Whitehall, I should definitely have hired a scooter!

Surely you weren't standing up the whole night?! I can understand being knackered after an all nighter, but I wouldn't have expected the legs to be the area affected... more the eyelids!!

Yup, I was stood up, the whole night! There was literally nowhere to sit down at all, there was a window ledge, but it was nothing more than a couple inches, so it was actually more strainful to try and sit down on it!
Though as said, this time, I am more prepared, I have my hostel room booked for after the ceremony, no point in booking for the day before, I'd not be using it and waste a days cash, I'll be bringing along my foldaway stool/step, this way I'll be able to sit and wait the night away, then stand on it with my camera stand to get above the crowds.... I don't want to be left with dead-legs like I did with the Queen's funeral 😉

Yes, I was going to suggest a portable chair of some kind if you hadn't already mentioned one!

I'm not going to make the same mistakes twice.......... I'm going to make whole new ones instead 😆 😉

That sounds a good strategy!

Making new mistakes?? 😕 😆

The other bit.
Not making them twice!!

Gotcha 😉

...and I'll take the half snipe to ask how your planning for viewing the the Coronation procession is coming along?
Got some details of the flypast now; there will be 60 aircraft involved so that should be quite a sight and sound... you'll have to be careful to position yourself so you won't get the sun in your eyes to see it, obviously.

Three-quarter snipe technically 😉
Well my train tickets are booked as well is my bunk at a nearby hostel, but I haven't decided on the position I am going to be watching from. I can't decide on whether I should go to the same spot as last time outside the abbey, or go to the mall so I can watch them go past, up and come out onto the balcony to watch the flyover!

I'd definitely say the Mall - much better view all round as well as being right under the flypast.
Ummm... historically ( back in Rowdy Robbie's day ) every 50 has been a half snipe and every 100 a snipe. The thousands were just bigger snipes...

Mall it is, I just hope I get a good spot before they close off the park, pavements and road! I'll have to take a second phone so I can get various shots!

You'll have to post up the results afterwards! 🙂

Will Tweet when I can!

Be aware - there's reports that some people have already been "bagging" their viewing points and have been in position since Tuesday ( yesterday )...!!

Not much of an issue, I'll be behind most of them anyway as I'll be stood on a stool!
I just hope my trains don't get cancelled like they did with the Queen's funeral!
04-05-2023 11:03 PM
You should be all right in that respect; the next strike isn't until the 12th so that's several clear days ahead of you.

Well, thankfully there was no problems with the trains this time, just my rucksack and hostel that gave me any problems! I was already pretty miffed that my rucksack broke on me, but I'm more disappointed that the hostel took so long to check in, leading to my missing the balcony appearance and flyover, though from what I've been told, the flyover was rather 'meh' !
Still glad I was there, despite the rain an what I missed! It was interesting sleeping rough on The Mall and I met a lot of people there... Canadian, American, Aussie, French, etc etc! Also good-on to the Aussies accross the road for holding their flags up in front of the itiot protestors placards!

Yes, the low cloud and rain forced the flypast to be much reduced in scale unfortunately, but to be fair they did make the call at the last possible moment - the entire originally planned formation was all ready to go and airborne and everything was holding near the "form up" zone.
