2 Minutes silence. Refusual to part take on religious grounds?

Hi all.
As we all know Monday was rememberance day and at work we all honoured the 2 mins silence.
However one person at work refused as they are a Jehovah Witness?

I've never come across this before and thought how absurd it was.  I can't understand what on earth religion has to do with standing and remebering those who fought for us.  Everyone not matter what religion or not have someone in their family tree who was directly affected by war

Moosie.. Heartbreaking post, but thank you for your honesty.   I can understand your feelings but I'm sure that was down to her being a particularly bad person and not what her religion is about.   Well, I hope that's the case.

I've not been a regular on here for sometime, but it obviously sounds like you've had a rough time of it here.  Hope that can change.
You've expressed somethings in your post far better than I managed to so thank you for that.

I believe that GN is a decent person as is the person I work with.  This same person who refused to honour rememberance day has been the nicest person to me personally, but I started this thread to try and understand why (and failed if I'm honest). So putting religious stuff aside I hope we can all continue to be respectful to each other on here.

Thank you Streety for your kindness and understanding flowers.gif

I'm sorry that your thread got somewhat hijacked, that's not what I wanted to happen at all.

As I've said, I didn't mean for my original post to be at all a personal attack on GN and I have apologised if it did come over like that.

The rest of what I write here is not in any way, directed at you Streety, I've always found you to be friendly and kind. hugs.gif

For some reason, and I'm not really understanding why, my face doesn't seem to fit here, and, it would seem, to me anyway, that certain people are allowed to express their opinions where as others aren't.

I don't take kindly to keep being under attack everytime I dare to post anything. It's been made crystal clear to me that I'm not wanted nor welcome here, and that's fine if it makes whoever they are feel better about themselves

I will state here and now though, that I am a member of a few forums, much, much bigger and with many more members than here, I have been on most of them for years and I've never once encountered this problem, I am an admin on one of them and have been for many years.

As I have also stated before, there is a nasty undercurrent on this forum and if I was an admin here believe me there would be a few people banned and pretty quick too.......and before anyone thinks I ban loads of members, I've only ever felt that I had to do that one time in all of my years!

I have no problem making friends and keeping them, also in real life as well as on the internet, just saying that in case anyone thinks I'm some sort of nasty person, if you think that, then you really are soooo wrong and you really don't know me at all.

People keep asking where have all the members gone..........well, how about having a good look and a good think, I think you'll find your answer pretty quickly.

I feel that I made a massive mistake in ever joining in here, one that I've learned now.

Some on here really need to learn to not be judgemental, who do you think you are to stand in judgement of anyone?!!! and just because you may not like what someone else has said, does NOT mean that that particular person is a nasty or bad person and nor do they deserve to be treated as such.

i have just read all of this thread since i first posted early on and still stand by what i said and that is basically each to his own and everybody should respect the beliefs of others

and i felt i needed to comment.

mandy i was quite surprised to see you posting and i have read your posts through and what you said in my opion was quite shocking.and then your last post said

i think you have just done this by painting all J Ws and there beliefs with the same brush .

there is always a bad apple in every barrel. not everyone is the same and everyone of every colour creed religion etc deserves understanding and respect and be allowed  to follow the path that they choose.

my appologies to anyone in advance if they are offended by what i said

i also do not always stand for two minutes silence on 11th of the 11th but as i work in a nursing home for the elderly i remember them most days and as my step son is a serving soldier i also think of and pray for everyone of his regiment every day so no i do not need 2 minutes to remember the fallen.

I agree Cookie, although I told myself not to comment any more! You were rude to Gina, told people to keep their opinions to themselves ......Maybe reading your posts back won't help much as SO many are now missing! Funny though, all yours seem to still be there.
