Does anyone know if it's now possible to have a sound alert when a new mail arrives on Gmail?

I believe they disabled Gmail Notifier some time ago so is it still possible to get a sound working?

When I've got some other pages open or am working with other programs like Word or PSP it's handy to have an email sound alert and the little pop-up alert doesn't stay for long enough to always spot it.

I'm not using Chrome as a browser and am using Win 7 on a desktop.

Nearly all of the sites I've found are old, before notifier was knocked off and others just seem to be old pages with a recent date meaning their info doesn't now work.

Petal, I've looked at all those, google stopped them working as I said.

The only thing I can suggest as a "pro-tem" is to have your Android phone nearby - mine tinkles when GMails come in, even tho I don't want it to 😉

(That's because GMails are the only ones that download onto my phone, and because I haven't taken the time to turn off notifications, I expect.  I don't cope with smartphones.)
