I am looking to buy an item from Japan but don't want to get unexpected charges.
I understand that eBay collects the VAT on items under £135 and no import duty will be owed. On this item the listed price is £87.52 but there is no sign of vat on the summary if I click the buy it now.
On checking on gov.uk site it suggests that the VAT will be collected from me by the courier and includes postage costs. The item is listed as free delivery. Will the vat be for the item and the cost of postage paid by the seller or just the cost of the item.
How will customs and exide know the cost of the item. It's all very confusing.
