Hi all,
I'm a non-business seller and a potential buyer got in touch to ask of my items listed on ebay are still available. When I replied yes, I received the following message:
"I live in Lincoln. I would like to come and see the products before buying them, but I don't think it's possible for me to come and see them. If there is a return guarantee option, I will buy the products, check them, and then decide. Please add these two items and provide a final quote: [post titles for two items]"
The items are quite high value items worth about £3k in total and the buyer's account is new with no feedback, which rauses
It feels like this is a reasonable request given the investment in these items, but I'm a bit concerned that there's a scam I'm not seeing?
Thanks,
Patrick

It could be innocent or it could be setting up a replacement scam. But either way I'm not sure I'd want to sell on the basis of "check and decide". Go with your gut feeling. If you decide against put their ID on your blocked bidder list:

You could change your items to collection only. The buyer will still have to pay although the overall sale would be subject to inspection before committing to the sale.
The buyer will be given a collection/QR code for each item. If they decide to go ahead with the purchases, you will need to enter or scan the codes before they take them away or you can cancel the sales.
This will not give you full protection as if they do say items not as described after they have taken away, you would have to accept this and arrange for the return although you get to meet your buyer and show them the items working etc.
For high end purchases and if they are close enough to view before the final purchase stage, I don't think it is an unreasonable request.
