Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team - 29.04.26 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

This week, our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay, dave@ebay and marco@ebay. Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

It is against eBay policy to have a registered trademark in your user name please?

Why is the message box so small on desktop, it's a tiny little line, it does expand a bit as you fill it but not very much, Etsy shows you how it should be done.

When I got to print a picking list why is the first page blank?

Why do the rest of the pages have so much space meaning it takes 3 more pages to print a dozen or so lines?

Hi @the_brick_lodge ,

No this is not removable. Its part of the design of the shop. You can click the question mark icon on the bottom of that page and send your feedback back  on it.

Thank you,

Kat

Thanks, how silly is that? Buyers are drawn to such a word but if you don't have a sale running buyer clicks it, sees a blank page and leaves, fantastic, just wonderful.

Hi @the_brick_lodge

If youre the trademark holder there shouldn't be an issue. If you're not and the trademark holder reports your user ID you may be forced to change it.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi the_brick_lodge, thanks for your reply.

I've seen the messages box, and I understand how you'd prefer for it to be bigger. However, I personally think it has a decent size. You can try zooming in your page when you're using your browser and that would give you better visibility, but that's basically as per design. I can pass on your feedback around this, that's no problem.

Thank you,

Marco

Thanks Dave so why does the help pages say this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/identity-policies/username-policy?id=4235

We don't allow usernames that include offensive language, third-party trademarks, email or web addresses, or the word "eBay".

Your stance sounds a bit wishy washy compared to the above text? Surely eBay should change the ID when reported if that's the policy, rather than needing the rights owner to report it (either that or the help page needs rewriting)?

Hi @the_brick_lodge ,

This may be to do with the settings on your printer. I am not sure why you would be getting a first blank page. You should be able to choose what pages to print so can skip a blank page. With regards to the sizing you should also be able to change via printer settings.

Thank you,

Kat

Sorry Marco, I can see the box, I can read the text, the box isn't big enough to see the full text I've typed in it all at once so when proof reading the message to the customer I have to scroll to read it all.

Zooming in doesn't help with that, your box is too small!

Yes, I see what you mean. I will be passing on your feedback around this, but as we always say, please note that this doesn't necessarily means that changes around this will be made.

Marco

I respectfully disagree, the second screenshot clearly shows the data is split into columns, order and send to are not repeated for each line as it was one customer buying multiple items, thus leaving a lot of blank space.

I should be able to print a picking list with around 30 order lines on it, the design is poor.

If it's proved to be trademarked it most likely will. My reply was to a general question so I can't say for definite if something will or won't be changed or removed.

You can certainly reach out to customer service with any examples you have and I'm sure they will be able to give you a more specific answer.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team - 29.04.26 @2pm

Dear team

I still don’t understand what there are so many home baked savouries and confectionary items available from privately registered sellers. It’s not like you bake a cake and think ‘oh I don’t want it now’ I’ll list it on eBay.

on the T&C’s it states : Before selling food items, you must register your business with the UK local authority.

Then why doesn’t eBay ask this question first? Why aren’t these categories given a compliance process before users can list them? ie check they are a business and registered with the FSA?

Jo

Thanks Dave, can you look at the report I sent sometime in the last week, was reviewed by a customer service rep, no violation, appealled with link to above and link to the trademark on gov website and nope, all fine apparently.

The trademark in question is extremely well known.

Hi @dantwocats ,

The system gives the postage based on the listing specifics. It doesn't look like you are adding any measurements or sizing on your listings which would help to get more precise postage options.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @bojangled

This one comes up from time to time here. I'll pass this back to the policy team as usual.

Thanks,

Dave

Welcome to the Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team! Unless otherwise noted, chats occur every Wednesday from 2pm to 3pm.

Our Community Team will be in the Chats to help with the questions.
