Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Hi.

Please can you give a explanation as to how these changes benefit users because from a PR point of view it's a monumental disaster. As a seller I cannot deal directly with RM anymore and as a buyer I know I am paying more than a seller lists a item for. How is this beneficial.

Hi rugbyguy1960, thanks for your question.

If with changes you mean Simple Delivery, you can click here, and you will see the benefits of Simple Delivery. If you mean the BPF, then you can click here.

Thank you,

Marco

My second question is are the forums actually moderated by humans or A.I because I have responded to messages saying I disagree with a decision and have asked for clarification and not once have I had a reply. To make matters worse I have emailed the Community Team more than once and yet again i have never had a response. Why is this ?

Hi @rugbyguy1960 ,

It is moderated by humans. If you can share when you sent the community team messages we can have that checked.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi, just following up on problem I brought up on the weekly chats 12th & 19th March with the ordering of items in the Lowest Price search not working (private buyer items coming ahead of business even though they are not cheaper). I know from other threads that this has been reported by others too.

Can you advise why it still isn't working and when it will be fixed?

Thanks, Katharine

Hi @*kittylou*

This was raised with the Tech Team when you reported it. It hasn't been confirmed as a tech issue so there isn't an update. We will continue to pass any examples we receive to the Tech Team and post any updates as we receive them.

Thanks,

Dave

Hello. Do you have any idea when extra couriers will be added to Simple Delivery such as Yodel etc?

Many people do not want to use EVRI as a courier, and whilst it is useful to be able to de-select them, why does this result in the cost of Royal Mail postage options increasing!

Hi @andreparr14 ,

Yes there is the option to select either courier as your preference. Royal Mail postage rates are not being made more expensive just because it is  as sellers preference, these are the rates that have been set as part of the Simple Delivery service.

Thank you,

Kat

yes same words used but better results out side of ebay for items in ebay ?

Thanks for confirming, dantwocats. You have 2 or 3 screenshots where we can see more/better results from Google than eBay, so we can take a further look?  Also, I'd need you to confirm the key words you're using and kind of item you're looking for.

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

Hi Marco,

My main point is that BPF shouldn't be needed if a private seller sent a item by RM 48hr Tracked. BPF only means I no longer pay the price a item was actually listed for and as RM Tracked included compensation surely this is unfair for a buyer and seller.

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

That doesn't seem to be the case - eBay states that de-selecting a carrier results in postage being more expensive

When is this going to happen, and why has there been no communication from eBay about the now delayed rollout?

Hi @andreparr14

There is no delay in the rollout, as far as I'm aware it is continuing as planned. With any updates of this size its sometimes run in baches to ensure there are no unforeseen issues caused. With a smaller group its easier for the team to spot any issues and make sure it doesn't cause a site wide issue.

I don't have any visibility on the schedule for the rollout but its shouldn't be too much longer to reach 100%.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

"these are the rates that have been set as part of the Simple Delivery service."

And why are the rates more expensive if sellers are unable to use Evri, for example because of distance to an evri drop off location rendering Evri untenable, is the extra fee a penalty?

Is there a forecast completion date for the simple delivery roll out, we were previously made to believe the 15th of April was that date?

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

As a buyer I want to know which carrier a seller / eBay intends to use. Currently in many cases all I can see under "Postage" is Standard or Express Delivery - it is not transparent as to which carrier corresponds to which service. Can this be made clearer please?

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

Why is it that the simple delivery options only show sizes up to 61cm long, when on the help pages it states you can send an item up to 120cm in length by Evri (and I had settings to use RM and Evri for the screen shot).

Simple Delivery SD dropdown.jpg

From https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/simple-delivery?id=5575

To send your items through the Simple Delivery programme, your packaged item will need to meet the following requirements:

Weighs up to 20kg
Dimensions:
For an EVRi parcel shop drop-off – no side exceeds 120cm in length, the volume is no more than 245cm. To calculate the volume, add together the two shortest sides and multiply it by two, and then add the length
For a Royal Mail parcel shop drop-off or collection – dimensions should be up to 61cm x 46cm x 46cm
For locker drop-off – dimensions shouldn't exceed 66cm x 41cm x 38cm
£750 or less (Buy It Now price, auction starting price or reserve price)
