Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.01.26 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay, marco@ebay and dave@ebay. Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Hi team

Is text across images being forgiven/allowed now?

It seems whatever category I’m browsing in there are a lot of listings with either a watermark, website address, measurement or branding across the images.

Hi equinox-electronics, thanks for your question.

We don't have a specific date for it, but this is done by the end of January. If your account met the thresholds, and you haven't received yours yet, please allow enough time for it to be generated.

For further information and see what the thresholds are to see if your account qualified for digital sales report, you can click here.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @bojangled ,

While it may not be picked up at the listing stage there hasn't been any change in allowing this in images. It doesn't benefit sellers to do this as it can affect visibility on google searches. You can report through the regular channel on site.

Thank you,

Kat

A little while after the Buyer Protection Fee was introduced the listing page added functionality to show the amount the seller would received as the well as the price the buyer would see including the BPF, like this:

includingBPF.jpg

This was a great improvement. Howevever the best offer area on the same page could do with the same functionality added as the lack of it is creating a space for misunderstanding between buyers and sellers. At the moment it looks like this:

bestOffer.jpg

It's not clear from this whether the 'Minimum Offer' or 'Auto-accept' amounts include the BPF or not. From experience for the 'Minimum Offer' it seems like it does not.

If I tell a buyer that I will accept an offer of £100 and put £99 in the 'Minimum Offer' field an offer of £100 will be automatically rejected, because the amount that they are entering includes the BPF but the amount I am accepting does not.

It would help if the Best Offer area would at least state whether the amount includes the BPF or ideally show the amount including and excluding BPF as the starting price area does.

Hi @wellingnorth

Thanks for the above, I can see how it could lead to an issue alright.

I'll pass this over to the site team as an improvement suggestion. It might be something they can work in to a future update.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi @dantwocats ,

Thank you Dave, that's appreciated, it came up for me this morning where I told the buyer I would accept a price, set that as the minimum, he made the offer and it was turned down. Not the end of the world as I could adjust it, but wasted a bit of the buyer's time so would be an improvement.

I had another question / some feedback if that's okay regarding Simple Delivery, again based on what I've experienced using it for the past 6+ months.

What would specifically be really helpful would be the ability to opt in or out of couriers on a per listing basis and also to show the buyers the courier names and allow them to choose which they prefer (like it works quite successfully on Vinted)

Personally I am opted out of Evri because I regularly get buyers contactinve me to check that I am not using  them, but if buyers were able to see and specifically choose Evri I would happily enable it. Also this week the situation has arisen where one parcel specifically needed to be sent via Evri and another specifically via Royal Mail, at the moment there's no way to allow both things at the same time.

Another regular request is someone needing an item by a specific day. Royal Mail Special Delivery is the only way to more or less guarantee that, but is currently not available through Simple Delivery. So the seller has either to go through one of the complicated workarounds discussed on the forums to avoid Simple Delivery or turn down the sale. Again it would be great if buyers could choose Evri / Royal Mail and then the specific service, Tracked 24, 48 or Special Delivery.

Finally unless I have misunderstood it seems like there are two Click & Collect systems operating on ebay, one for Simple Delivery using Evri delivery to Evri stores and another for collections from Argos, etc. Would it be possible to make both systems available under Simple Delivery and regardless of whether you are opted in or out of any specific courier (at the moment if you are opted out of Evri Click & Collect is not available)

Hi mteconlineshop, thanks for your question,

I've just checked there, and you don't currently have a business policy active in your account. Your screenshot I believe was taken from the listing page, not the business policy, can you try from the business policy to see if that saves it?

Thank you,

Marco

Thanks for your reply, mteconlineshop

Could you please confirm 1 or 2 orders where you had those policies set up, but you still got Northern Ireland addressed, so I can take a further look and report it if needed?

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @wellingnorth ,

We appreciate your feedback on Simple Delivery.  You are raising good points regarding buyers having a courier preference, the Royal Mail Special Delivery option and the click and collect options, will share these with our team.

Thanks,

Kat

Hi @valueaddedresource

The community posts are scheduled to go live at a set time. The site will usually be updated before announcement posts go live to make sure the links are active for the announcement.

Thanks,

Dave
