Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 11.09.24 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay, marco@ebay and dave@ebay. Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order, and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Hi Kat

I ticked the box on the listings I wanted to change, if I click edit then just one of listing comes up.

If I click on the arrow the drop down menu gives me lots of options, "add item Specifics" this does not bring me to the details I need to fill in, "add/edit note" is no good either.

Have you got an option on the drop down menu for add General Product Safety reg details?

How do I please add this information in bulk on my listings.

I would like to get ready and organised for this whilst my ebay shop is slow.

It is no help to the sellers ,if you are telling us to be ready and do not provide the tools to help.

I have over 1,000 listings and I do not want to do this one at a time.

Best wishes

Hi @lincolnshiremarine ,

I'll have a look into the details for it as it was announced today. I will follow up offline and come back to you.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @exponential_developments

Unfortunately thats not something we can help with here. It would probably be worth checking with a financial adviser. They should be able to provide you some clarification.

Thanks,

Dave

I was under the impression ebay would be asking for numbers, and wondered which one.

Thanks Marco.

Interestingly, since I posted this, the link to other shops is no longer showing on my listings.

I suspect it's one of those 'oops we pushed a button too early' moments that eBay are famous for.

But it will be ebay asking for the NINO/UTR, so they must surely know what they will be asking for?
I would prefer to use the UTR I had from self employment days, even though I am only a private seller now, so I would also like to know exactly which number ebay will be asking for.

Thanks for letting me know, darth_baggins.

I will add that to the feedback as well, just in case. The more information, the better.

Thank you,

Marco

Sorry that doesn't make sense, which number will eBay be asking sole trader business sellers for? A financial advisor can't answer on behalf of eBay.

Hi @kempseykate

This isn't something our team deals with. You can reach out to customer support who may be able to help you with this.

Thanks,

Dave

dave@ebay

Thanks Dave, but given that if you ask 5 customer support staff the same question you will likely get 5 different answers, it would be nice to have something down in writing. Perhaps you could pass on a suggestion that an announcement on this would be helpful?

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 11.09.24 @2pm

this is from HMRC web site

Keeping your National Insurance number safe

To prevent identity fraud, do not share your National Insurance number with anyone who does not need it.

These organisations may need to know what your number is:

  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
  • your employer
  • the Department for Work and Pensions (which includes Jobcentre Plus and the Pension, Disability and Carers Service), if you claim state benefits, or in Northern Ireland the Department for Social Development
  • your local council, if you claim Housing Benefit, or the Northern Ireland Housing Executive
  • Electoral Registration Officers (to check your identity when you register to vote)
  • the Student Loans Company, if you apply for a student loan
  • your pension provider if you have a personal or stakeholder pension
  • your Individual Savings Account (ISA) provider, if you open an ISA
  • authorised financial service providers who help you buy and sell investments like shares, bonds and derivatives - you can check if your provider is authorised
  • Veterans UK

so ?

Hi @kempseykate

There will usually be a post on the announcement board or some communication through the usual channels closer to the time. I have asked for some more information on it and we will reach out ASAP.

Thanks,

Dave
