this is wrong  you do not need to be 18 or over to buy a hedge cutting / ??

also you need a credit card ,we do not have one ???,

but odd as ebay knows how old you are and how long you have been a member (its well over 18years for me )

what a pain and just want to trim a bit of the hedge

You are referring to the general Bladed Articles policy in the UK. However, ebay have chosen to go above and beyond and their own store policy is stricter. Given its their site, they can do this.

The only option ebay offer for age verification is having a credit card on file. This is the bit that surprises me as generally speaking, what I've read suggests that just accepting a credit card may not be considered enough to perform age verification. Other sites use an upload a proof of ID (generally through a paid third party software). Of course, if ebay did that there would be as many up in arms over uploading their passport or driving license - more personal data!

But as it is, if you don't have a credit card - you'll need to buy your hedge strimmer elsewhere.

ebay could ban the sale of cardboard boxes if they wanted to. Its entirely up to them.

ebay are correct in that bladed items should be age verified if being sold online (as well as sold with an age verification delivery service). The difference is in what ebay are interpreting as a bladed item. Again, entirely up to them.

If they are saying 'in the uk, bladed items can be sold and delivered only to customers age 18 or older' they are referring to ebay sales in the uk. Nothing in that message states UK law.

yes it refers to a UK law not says its a UK law ,,but the quit ,,In the UK, bladed items can be sold and delivered only to customers aged 18 or older,, has nothing to do with ,, hedge trimmers,,  its misdirection,,  should say its ebay policy in the UK? This would make it clear and pain but clear , I have now spent my money else where ! over the counter and no credit card needed or ID

Where does it refer to 'UK law'? It doesn't. It says in the UK. That could very well mean, 'on ebay in the UK'. Its only misdrection if you choose to see it as misdirection.

Well done for buying it somewhere else. Of course there is no need for credit card or ID. If you look easily over 18 in a shop - then age verification can be done visually.
