Why is ebay gone so wrong

I hadn’t used eBay for years, but a few weeks ago I decided to have a clear-out and sell a few things. Honestly, I’m starting to regret that decision. Even signing back up was a nightmare — it took over a week just to get verified. This is 2025, not 1925. It took them six days to transfer 0.001p in and out of my account, something that should take seconds.

After all the verification hassle..uploading documents, taking photos of my driving licence and so on -I finally started listing some items. At first it was just low-value bits, then more expensive things recently. And now, out of nowhere, I get hit with another verification check.

After speaking with their so-called “customer support” (honestly, an AI reading from a script would have done a better job), they eventually admitted sort of — that all the verifications had already been completed, but they had no idea why another department had blocked my account. Yes, their own departments can’t even explain their own actions!

I was told the block would be lifted, but two hours later I received yet another email asking me the same questions. This time they sent me a link where, after logging in three times and going through more checks, I was told I needed to upload my ID again. Why? If I don’t comply, my account stays blocked.

This is what eBay has become now.

You are not alone in feeling like this about Verification. Given the amount of personal data that eBay holds on us, I try just to grin and bear it when they are over-cautious. As soon as I saw that your 'more expensive items' are Apple products on a 5* DSR account, I'm afraid it all made sense. I hope you will see the light on the other side of the verification tunnel soon!

Hi,

Until your Seller Rating reaches 10.   eBay can hold your sales funds up to 28 days (view eBay's Guidelines explaining the Holds on New or Infrequent Seller's Account).

I noticed you have changed your eBay Account ID, this may have triggered the AI to ask you to verify certain information on your account.
