I bought a secondhand item from a UK seller for £66.48p + £2.25p Postage +0.97p VAT.  0.97p doesn't appear to be 20% of any of these figures so just out of interest what is the reason for the 97p VAT?

The way it's displayed is confusing, but eBay charges 20% VAT on the "Simple Delivery" and "Buyer Protection Fee", but not on the item itself.

Just to confirm, the VAT in your transaction is related to the Simple Delivery label, and your buyer protection fee. If you click here, you can see more about paying tax on eBay purchases.
