Uk buyers now not allowed to buy from America!

Has any other UK buyer had this problem? I'm absolutely disgusted with eBay for ever implementing it. It's so discriminating and weird. Basically if you're in the UK, you are now no longer allowed to buy from any seller in America, no matter how hard it might be to find this particular item, no matter how much you might be willing to pay for it, eBay don't care at all. They should actually be ashamed of themselves, they didn't even have the decency to let UK buyers and American sellers know about this ridiculous new rule. If you haven't already, just try it. You can put any item in your basket, but you just...can't buy any item if it's from America. When you go to checkout, a message comes up saying "sorry this seller won't ship here" despite the fact 1) you probably can't find the item you want anywhere else 2) some sellers are happy to ship to UK and 3) it's global shipping

And the worst bit about it? There's nothing the seller can do. If you are lucky enough to eventually get it shipped here thanks to a workaround, it's eBay that decide the shipping cost, not the seller. So you might find yourself paying more for shipping than the actual item!

I can't even begin to tell you how upset and confused I am about it. UK is not even in excluded countries, eBay are just treating it like it doesn't exist at all. Me and my fiancé had to ask 3 different sellers about sending our most sought after item for our collection (which we did eventually get thanks to one lovely seller ending the listing and re listing it for us- just in a different category) but that's the only way you can buy. I've just had a American seller tell me they will get a account restriction if they send a different item to me, as shipping to UK is no longer allowed. Yet shipping to pretty much every other country is? It's absolutely disgusting!

I wonder if eBay realise if they keep this up, they will lose so many customers! What do you think of this?

Re: Uk buyers now not allowed to buy from America!

The winning bidder on one of my items that finished yesterday (May 15 2025) was based in the U.S.

He messaged to say he was unable to complete his payment through the Global Shipping Program.

He received a message from ebay stating the seller does not currently ship to his  location.

Just spoke to ebay Uk representative, Liam, today 16 May, 2025.

He stated that ebay global shipping program has suspended all shipping to US and Canada in the last '2 or 3 days'  due to ongoing concerns regarding US imposed tariffs.

As a result, any buyers from US or Canada, who win a UK seller's auction that ships through the GSP, will be unable to pay for the item and will receive a message telling them the seller does not ship to their location.

Unfortunately, any bids on UK items by US or Canadian buyers placed prior to this decision by ebay, will result in the winning bidder being unable to complete their purchase.

Liam stated this was a business decision taken by ebay to protect itself, as the GSP is supposed to take full responsibility once the item is received at Lichfield, Staffs.

Ebay do not want to be responsible for having to fund the additional import tariffs.

He stated ebay purposely haven't communicated this to UK sellers as it is an 'ongoing situation'

So, the first UK sellers using the GSP will know of this is when their buyer is unable to pay for their item and will have to cancel their order.

Re: Uk buyers now not allowed to buy from America!

Been looking for a certain porcelain doll for months, I finally found one and only now found out I can't order from the USA. This is a joke! However, I messaged the lovely lady to let her know as I was already talking to her because I thought it was a fault on her end or technical. Anyways, I sent her a screenshot of this and explained the 3 options we could try, thank god she was so lovely and understanding as she was well up for trying, she literally changed the tilte from "doll" to "statue" as i was able to buy it straight away! It's a joke, she is now changing items on her ebay to ensure UK isn't left out as she wondered why her UK buyers weren't interested anymore!

Again, I was incredibly lucky she was happy to try! I've checked everywhere to check why dolls and toys have been stopped but cant find nothing! But both parties are furious that ebay did not make either parties aware!!

Re: Uk buyers now not allowed to buy from America!

eBay-wise, it's no real loss, as I gave up on purchases from the US over a decade ago. The steep increases in postage and custom charges were the final nails in the coffin for me.

Outside of eBay, it's certainly a damn shame, as there's a lot of great stuff you can't get in the UK (let alone Europe).

Even ordering a sample of something, sent in a small jiffy bag, can cost you around $40 (as opposed to under $10 back in the day)!
