The seller cancelled my order and refunded without communication. Reason is "Out of stock" which is a stupid explanation since the item had been on the auction block for days.
My maximum bid was higher than the one I won but apparently the seller didn't like it.
Of course there could always be a really good reason but I've always wondered why Ebay allows cancellations of already purchased items like this without any communication with the buyer. This "I'm buying but it might be cancelled" stuff is very frustrating and unfair.

As you paid you should be able to leave feedback. No communication prior to the cancellation warrants a negative feedback in itself.
If you feel strongly enough leave a negative feedback with a simple explanation along the lines of "seller didn't communicate and didn't honour the transaction"

There are times when a seller genuinely can't complete a sale.
Maybe the item has been given away, can't be found, has damage not noticed before or has been sold elsewhere.
It is better for you that the seller is upfront and cancels the sale rather than letting you pay and then wait for a refund.
The seller will get a defect from Ebay on their account.

They should have messaged you out of courtesy imo
ive done this but only because I searched high and low and couldn’t find the item, told uyer I’d contact them when I did and relist for them if they wanted
but being an auction you’d think it was a to hand thing not something that had been doing the rounds for months on end and you e forgotten where it is

I'm not so disappointed by the cancellation, as by the fact that it happens without any notice and yes, the seller knowingly allows bidding and payment for the item.
This has happened to me several times, as I assume to many others, but for some reason eBay doesn't stop this practice.
Аnd yes, I completely agree with "but being an auction you’d think it was a to hand thing not something that had been doing the rounds for months on end and you e forgotten where it is".
Anyway, nothing much happened, but situations like this bring an unpleasant uncertainty, especially if you rely on the order.

Yes, there can't be many of us that haven't experienced this disappointing situation a few times. It is usually an auction, where the seller decides the winning bid is not enough. In which case, they should set a reserve, or put the item up for buy it now or best offer. Have they relisted the item?
If there was a genuine reason for cancelling, you would expect some sort of apology/explanation, although it seems few people feel they have to apologise for anything these days...
As well as not getting the item, it is such a waste of time & effort spent researching, and waiting for the auction, all for nothing!

Thanks for your replies.
Just wanted to share about another time I'm disappointed with eBay.
Otherwise, the seller of course received negative feedback mainly for not contacting me to explain the reason for the cancellation or at least for an apology.
@department28 That's exactly what I mean- " it is such a waste of time & effort spent researching, and waiting for the auction, all for nothing!"
