Remove very annoying 2 step verification process

How do I get rid of this supremely annoying thing? It's only been there a morning and I'm already sick of having to fetch my mobile phone to get the code. I am not surgically and unhealthily attached to my phone, it is not with me constantly and except for when it rings or buzzes with a text I never look at it. I don't want to have to find it to put in a random code  to access my ebay account when I've already put in a password which was working perfectly well on it's own. Why can't people leave things alone? Anyway, how do I turn it off or better still remove it?

I have brought this back up as I have tried to turn off as suggested but nothing is working. EVERY time I log in to ebay I have to get a text. I live in the countryside and have very weak reception so this is becoming a real problem. I need to turn it off. Do I have to call ebay?

I dont use a phone for internet ( due to reception)

I only use a linux laptop with firefox.

No I am not changing my browser. It works fine for everything and has always worked for ebay until now.

Any more suggestions welcome?

Thank you so much for this. I really sometimes felt like someone on the verge of a nervous breakdown for the past year or more when having to deal with this 2-Step Verification over and over again!

Best wishes

Seems to have stopped. Now only have to log in by text if I delete my cookies, which I just did to try to fix the current problem I now have of my 'invisible' listings. Hmm looks like ebay just gave me a whole new problem to get irritated by..

There is no option to disable. Only oPtions to choose 2 step verification or ebay app push notifications.

I hate this about ebay. I often buy on Amazon instead of ebay, if i dont have my phone to hand or can't be arsed to faff about with it, it's easier to just go to AMAZON, WITH NO 2 STEP VERIFICATION, SO THEY GET MY MONEY - NOT EBAY!

Very kind of you however Chrome etc harvest & sell shedloads of your Data
without your permission ( ..2 step verification is also an example of this )
Many people have no clue how important thier privicy really is ..and are in
for some nasty shocks.
I value my privicy and trust Firefox not to harvest my Data ...I do not
wish to use other browsers .. 2 step verification used to be opt in only
not manditory
It should still be this way otherwise companies are stealing a hugwe a
mount of your data ..who knows who is buying it !

One way to avoid the phone thing is to use Authy Desktop.  You download it to your PC then sign in on it. It has several providers attached to it including PayPal.  When I am going to pay for anything I start the app up on the PC and it generators the numbers. So when the two-step number system comes in I am ready to put in the numbers.

There's an even simpler solution.

DON'T  give them your mobile number in the first place. I haven't and I can still get into my account.

If you've already given them it then it might be too late, but the way it works for me is that they send a code to my email address, since they don't have a mobile number. Then when I confirm the code in the email, they pester me for my mobile number. There doesn't seem to be any way round this... but there is...

Just click the ebay logo at the top of the page and it takes you straight to your account, no mobile number required.

Personally, I'm sick to death of companies asking for my mobile number in the name of "security", especially when this is one of the LEAST secure ways of doing two factor authentication. A mobile can be lost, stolen, or hacked. There's even such a thing as a SIM swap where hackers can steal your number and pretend to be you.

If these large companies are THAT concerned about security then why do they ALWAYS insist on using one of the least secure methods over and above anything else? Quite cleary, your security is NOT their top priority.

My landline is way more secure, as both the number and the phone are unlikely to be lost or stolen. Any company that won't let me do 2FA via landline or email doesn't get my business. I even removed my mobile number from my bank after they abused it.

Belive me, 2FA via mobile has NOTHING to do with security, and everything to do with collecting mobile numbers to track your every move. It's not about security, it's about surveillance.

I agree with all your points.  However, most people coming here have already fallen into the trap.  I would prefer to awitch to a landline-based solution.

The whole concept of two-step verification has been dreamt up by the banks to reduce the amount of fraud that they are suffering.  And, of course, mobile numbers are the database development holy grail.

It gets even worse when you have to switch devices! I just upgraded to a Windows 10 computer.  And when I got the Auth App working. I logged into PayPal, and it asked for the code number, which I got from the app. Only to be told it was wrong. Spent half an hour on the phone to PayPal, and they couldn't work it out.  So can not use PayPal at the moment.
