Made a reasonable offer and received this reply:

 

"Hi I hsve a buyer offline. If thst falls through, i will let you know. Thanks"

If you really want the item badly enough and feel that there is a risk that you might lose it to the off-eBay buyer that the seller mentioned then so long as the asking price isn't overly high just buy the item outright for the full asking price and pay for it straightaway.  From that point onwards the item is your own property and the seller would then not have the option of selling it to the off-eBay buyer.

It sounds like the seller intends doing an off ebay sale. If so this is unwise as, if ebay get wind of it both buyer and seller can lose their account.

Ebay do read all messages going through their system so you would be advised not to reply to the message.
