I recently had what I would class as a negative experience buying. I bought a rug and a different one turned up. It was an international purchase and due to this the return was 'impossible' due to the Seller unable to provide a label. I was unwilling to spend over £100 on top of what I had paid to provide the return label and be refunded this was also agreed as sensible by Ebay CS.
I needed to pay for the return label and they would refund me. Over £100 to send.
Two offers of discounts were made - I don't want the rug. Its not what you were advertising.
The right rug would be sent out if I cancelled the return. Ebay CS advised against it.
I was called 'unreasonable' and had a pushy seller wanting me to go outside Ebay policies which would have left me without recourse.
This is the first time I have had such difficulties.
I found waiting for the return label that they could not or would not provide stressful and reached out to Ebay Community and Ebay CS for guidance throughout the process. The support was very good.
I did eventually get a refund. I put it behind me. I ordered a new rug.
Today I received 3 passive aggressive or even just aggressive messages from the seller as I had left a negative review. My review is as follows:
'Wrong rug sent. Disappointing'
AIBU to leave a negative review? The attitude of the Seller was I should accept the rug sent even though it was NAD - similar but different plus dirty and smelly. Described as antique - no way the one sent was similar but a poor version of the advertised one. The rug was sent from one country, seller in another country but wanted me to return to a third country? Go outside of Ebay policy by cancelling the return.
I usually just leave no feedback if not totally happy but felt my review was well placed and honest.
I received 3 messages this morning only seen this evening and frankly am shocked that the Seller thinks given what's happened having to ask Ebay to step in, escalate, wait, ask for guidance/ support that the Seller thinks the review should be positive or even neutral?
I am not celebrating losing my money for a few weeks and having a very poor quality rug (that needs cleaning) rolled up in the corner, having to stand firm with a pushy seller etc
Just what is the etiquette for negative reviews? When is it appropriate? I almost didn't bother leaving one but am a bit concerned if the default (i.e no review left) goes to a positive auto review? Where is the protection for genuine buyers that have had genuine poor experiences with sellers?
Even though eventually my issue got sorted out it isn't a process I want to ever repeat! Is a positive outcome i.e. refunded enough to warrant a positive review? Even if it has been a real journey to get there?
If the seller had sent the correct rug out & provided a returns label or even correct rug and keep the other then yes I can see a positive review out of this.
I have reported the messages as I don't want rude, abusive & bullying messages to change my review, name calling etc
AIBU? Educate me please!

In my opinion you are not being unreasonable at all.
The big decider is that the seller asked you to cancell the return, then the right rug would be sent out.
That's bo££ock$. You'd never have heard from them again....
Seller in one country, rug in another and wanting a return to a third??
Bunch of scammers.
Ignore their messages; they *can't* leave you negative. If they leave a negative comment on a positive green dot you can get C.S. to remove it and sanction them as well.

Thanks Lucy!
It was quite a surprise to get the messages today. Not nice.
Just spoken to CS and have managed to block seller from messaging me via my own 'block a buyer' list even though I was the buyer.
Have regularly shopped on Ebay for a long time this is the first time something has gone quite so wrong.
Community & CS were very good.
My new rug is on its way (UK) hopefully no drama with this one.
Thanks again for your response. Appreciated.
