£10 voucher complete scam?

I downloaded the app to get a £10 voucher and there is no sign of it anywhere. Obviously the automated customer service number or chat doesn't allow to speak to anyone so there nobody to guide me how to get the voucher. I am starting to think that this is just a complete lie.

Hi @arseniy123 ,

Thank you for your post.

If you can, log into your account through web browser the coupon code is showing under the my eBay summary section. You can copy the code and then use it in within the app.

Thank you,

Kat

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

Finally managed to get it on the PC then sent it to WhatsApp. The whole process was painful to navigate. After all of the the voucher is for a £50 minimum spend which wasn't mentioned anywhere until I go to spend it. Goodbye eBay. Never again.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

Same for me.  EBay, if you make an offer for £10-off for using the app for the first time, kindly stick to your word.  I'm off to Amazon.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

@scottish_don  Ebay helpfully don't tell you how to actually access the code from the app. Once you're logged into the app, you need to tap on notifications at the bottom. This will then display the app code across the bottom of your screen with a Copy Code link to tap. You can then paste it into the Vouchers box at checkout.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

Yes thanks, I found the code (actually from the PC desktop and transferred
it via Phone link) but that is not my point, which is that eBay offer this
incentive to install their app and then I find I have to spend over £50 to
get the £10 off, which they didn't say in the original offer. Hence I am
none too pleased and went off to Amazon.

Kind regards

Don

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

I've had the exact same thing.  I downloaded the app but it doesn't say you have to use £50 until you go to check out.  I left it overnight and then added some more things into my basket to make it £50.  Now the voucher code has gone and I can't seem to find it.  I've left the things in my basket but no way am i buying them without the code.  This feels really manipulative Ebay!!!!!!

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

If you think the promotion is misleading, the organisation to complain to is the Advertising Standards Authority.  This is what they say about promotions:

All marketing communications or other material referring to promotions must communicate all applicable significant conditions or information where the omission of such conditions or information is likely to mislead. Significant conditions or information may, depending on the circumstances, include:  How to participate, including significant conditions and costs, and other major factors reasonably likely to influence consumer's decision or understanding about the promotion

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

Yep, almost fell for it. Installed the app, no where to enter the code...So sad, seems ebay is still scamming everyone today. Uninstalled the app of course. Thankyou ebay, but I'll shop elsewhere.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

@simonb1965 did you follow my instructions in post #5? Once you've copied the code, there's a vouchers box when you go to the checkout page which you just need to paste it into.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

thanks for the reply. Well, went through it muliple times, opting to use paypal, then choosing not to hit the very final pay button within the paypal UI - no sign of being able to enter the code at any point along the way. Very frustrating. Even if it was hidden somewhere (which I tend to doubt) the user experience is a complete joke.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

I’ve already posted trying to upvote the correct answer. For anyone who’s got this issue like I did. You need to go on the physical eBay website. Once on the website log into your account and on the homepage go to your profile and there should be an eBay summary option. Click on that and you can see a list of all active vouchers and the codes.

The app is not reliable as it does not provide the discount into your notifications for some reason.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

That is interesting - I'm not getting anything in my summary page myself, so no code I can even copy. The popup has shown multiple times in the last day and  there's nothing in the summary tab on desktop. I have no summary tab on Android, and when I rang customer support, they seemed to be baffled that there's no tab, I assume the app has changed since whatever they may have in front of them on their systems.

Re: £10 voucher complete scam?

@simonb1965 @blaze_x86 when you're logged into the app, first tap on notifications which is at the bottom of your screen (see below).

Home Page.jpg

When you have a voucher available, tapping that will bring the details up at the bottom of your screen with instructions to tap the code to copy it. I can't screenshot that as I don't currently have a voucher available.

Once you've copied the code, add whatever you're buying to your basket then go to checkout. The checkout page on the app looks like this:

Checkout.jpg

Tap on "Add vouchers" immediately above the "Confirm and pay" button. (Don't tap "Confirm and pay" yet.) You will then get a voucher code box into which you paste the code that you previously copied and then tap "Apply" (see below).

Voucher Code.jpg

That will have added the voucher and then you can tap the big blue "Confirm and pay" button. Obviously the voucher will only work as long as you've reached the minimum spend - usually seems to be £50 at the moment.

I can honestly say that having an app-only voucher is the only time I ever shop on the app as the functionality is rubbish compared to the proper desktop version of ebay so I don't think this voucher campaign is going to greatly increase app usage - especially as many people can't even find the voucher on the app let alone apply it. And that's not a dig at you, more at the poor design of app features.
