seller called my mobile. How do I stop this?

Following a recent eBay purchase, the seller called me on my mobile. I'm concerned as to how he got my number, so I asked him, and he said that he got it on eBay, and it was in my contact details. eBay said that there is no way that he would have got my number from them, and to check mynPaypal account. I've never received a buyers number when I've received their PayPal payment, so where is he getting it fro, and how do I stop this happening in the future?

Of course I know how to block a number, and have done so, but that doesn’t solve the problem of how how they're able to access my private information in the first place, which is what I want to know!

The seller is given your email address and the phone number associated with your account, but they are not supposed to use them for anything other than your order. Some sellers make it a condition of sale that you have a number associated with your account.

Thanks for your comment, I’m somewhat confused however, as I don’t recall ever having a buyer’s email address and phone number when I’ve sold items. Also, when I contacted eBay about this issue they said -

“I was able to review everything on your account. Your Site Preferences, Communication Preferences, Communication with your buyers and even your Personal information. And your phone number and email address is hidden.
I've also checked your account on the seller's point of view and your phone number cannot be seen as well.
We do follow the GDPR regulations and that is why we make sure that your information will stay hidden and will not be disclosed without your authorization.”
This implies that I have to give permission for a seller to be given my phone number. Can you see why I might be a bit confused? 🙂

Sellers only have access to your phone number if you give Ebay permission to show it when registering your account, which you must have done. Go to your Ebay account to remove that permission.

I’ve checked my account, and it gives me the option to prevent buyers seeing my number, which I have always had set to not share but I can’t find any way of stopping sellers get my number. Could you tell me how I should do this please?
