Ebay's and PayPal's buyer protection can only cover items which you find are problematic on receipt. They can't legally help with items which fail further down the line (which is what I assume has happened here) as they can have no idea who is at fault - the seller for supplying substandard goods, or you for misusing the item. Only a judge can make such a decision.

You need to contact the seller. If they prove to be unhelpful and are a UK business seller, go to the CAB's website to learn how to exercise your consumer rights, just as you would when having a problem with an unhelpful High Street store..

If the seller is not in the UK, or is a private seller getting rid of his old unwanted possessions, there is nothing you can do, I'm afraid.

you are too late for ebay to do anything,

the money back guarantee only covers the first 30 days

As even paypal only deal with Condition on arrival I doubt that they will be interested in a purchase in January.

There 180 days is principally for NOT RECEIVED ITEMS.

There's no point emailing ebay.  You'll get an auto stock response and their deadline for claims is 30 days anyway.

You can try Paypal, they have a longer deadline.   Log into your Paypal account and click on Contact Us (at bottom of page) > Resolution Centre (at bottom of next page) > Report a Problem
