conflict with an item that is being auctioned and making an offer for it

I place a bid on a handbag yesterday  for £38.00 - there were two other bids at the time.  There was no option to make an offer against this.  I've just had an email from ebay asking me to make an offer for the same handbag for £64.00.  It's title is slightly different .   One says 'Agnes' and  the other says' Agnes b Leather handbag' but it's the same bag, same photos and same seller.

I thought this wasn't allowed?  Also makes me less willing to continue with this bid.

'dealing' through messages is strictly against eBay policy - ignore them.

Sellers are now able to send offers to people watching their items.   As long as it's kept on ebay they're fine with it.
