Unable to pay for an item that has been sent to me. HELP!!

I bought an inexpensive item just under a week ago.  I made an offer which was accepted and attempted to pay for it on the same day. Unfortunately, I received the error message 'One or more sellers can't accept payment right now'. In 14 years of ebaying I'd never ever seen this one before, so assumed it to be an ebay glitch. I messaged the seller and explained what had happened, I also checked out on here to see if anyone had come across the same problem, which they had. I took on board any suggestions that were made and contacted the seller again.

I always pay using my PayPal account and the listing stated it accepted PayPal and is based in the UK so I thought there wouldn't be a problem. I contacted the seller and he asked me if I wanted to pay using a Bankers Draft, which I declined.  I've tried several times to pay, contacted PayPal and Ebay twice to check if all was good at my end. No problems, no restrictions etc. The seller has tried his best to sort out all problems at his end and said that everything was fine now, but I'm still unable to pay. I've changed my payment method, still no luck.  The item arrived yesterday, even though I suggested he didn't send it until I'd paid.  I'm totally baffled as the item is still in my basket and eBay will be on my back to pay for it.  I'm totally stumped as to what to do next. I really feel bad about keeping something I've not paid for.  Any help would be most appreciated.

You've gone above and beyond, so stop worrying about it. All the seller has to do, if he still requires payment, is to send you a PayPal invoice from his PayPal account (why he hasn't already done that simple thing, is a mystery).  So leave him to it, and get on with your life.

If you have not already tried it then try doing what I've done in the past when I've experienced eBay glitches that have prevented me from making payment.  What I've done has been to log out of eBay UK and log onto www.ebay.com, which is the USA version of the site.  That way everything is still in English and only the currency is displayed differently, as everything will be shown in US Dollars as opposed to Pounds Sterling.  Try to pay for the item again using the American website.  Whenever I've needed to use this workaround option in the past to get around glitches affecting eBay UK that have been preventing me from being able to pay for an item that doesn't have any restrictions on posting to the part of the UK that I live in (or the UK as a whole) I've found that it has worked every time.

Hi m25jet thank you so much for your advice. I'll give it a try. But when I spoke to eBay they said it was the sellers problem and that he hasn't sorted out the issues at his end. 😞 He's been really helpful, so I really want to get his payment to him.

It may be that the e-mail address linked to the seller's listing is different to the one on his/her PayPal account. Send the seller a message and ask him/her to check whether this is indeed the case. If it is and the seller adds the e-mail address to his/her PayPal account that is linked to the listing then he/she should be able to receive the payment when you next attempt to pay for the item. It's not in the seller's interests to refuse to check this out, as if this is indeed the problem then unless the seller actually does something to resolve the problem then he/she will not get the money from the sale.

If the seller says something along the lines of "I don't want to have to start changing e-mail addresses on my PayPal account" remind him/her of the fact that he/she can have up to eight e-mail addresses linked to one PayPal account, so unless the seller has already got eight e-mail addresses linked to his/her PayPal account then adding one more should not present a problem.

Thanks again m25jet I'll double check with him. I have mentioned the email issue in the past, but i'll give it another try. He's sent the item already but I don't know what will happen if I still can't pay for it. Is it worth sending a Postal Order to him? I haven't done that before but I know it can be a payment option.

Thanks again m25jet i've decided to wait it out, to see if he replies to my recent messages. But I don't think I want to send anything through the post if I can't pay using PayPal.

the problem is the sellers end, they have used a different email for payment on the listing form

they need to add the address they used to their paypal account

if they are unable to do that they need to send you an invoice through paypal

or just give you their paypal email address so that you can send them a payment directly

Hi pixiesen2012 thanks for your advice. I originally suggested that to him. But he said it was sorted. I will ask him for an invoice and see if that works. Thanks again.
