Can't change reason for return

So I selected the "item didn't fit" when raising a return, where I should have selected item not as described as the item doesn't fit my make model and year of car as it was described/advertised.

However due to this I have to pay for postage now. Which is over half the value of the item.

eBay cannot change the reason or cancel the return, to allow me to raise the return again using the correct reason.

eBay phoned and said this is because their software won't allow them to do it. One reason could be that the seller's return policy states no returns accepted. I did contact the seller prior to raising return and he said no problem!

Doesn't seem right that I'm penalised for a small error in raising a return and eBay admin can't help!

If the regulars here had £1.00 for every time we've answered this question, we'd be rich!

EBay is totlally unforgiving of any departure from their rules. If you open the wrong type of case you can't open anpother one. "Item doesn't fit" was intended for clothing that doesn't fit! This is totally different to when a seller supplies a spare part that doesn't fit what it was supposed to fit.

Unfortunately, eBay gives "doesn't fit" this as an example of when to use an ordinary returns request, which is why so many buyers find themselves in this position.

If  ypou paid by PayPal, you can still file a dispute under Paypal's buyer protection policy, see: https://www.paypal.com/uk/smarthelp/article/what-if-i-didn%27t-receive-my-item-or-it%27s-not-as-adve...

Unlike eBay, PayPal requires the buyer to pay for the return postage, unless you first register for their (free) "Return shipping on us" service, see: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/refunded-returns

The rules are strict and once you have opened one you can not change it or close one and open another

You can only open one dispute.

If you chose a change of mind return which would be item does not fit then you have to pay the return postage.

You should follow the dispute through if you want a refund.

If that fails then try paypal but dont rely on paypal paying the postage you may have to pay it yourself there too

If you fail on ebay and if you paid by paypal then try opening a not as described dispute there

Sign up to their postage returns if you can. If not you would have to pay the return there too.
