I received an item not as described and the seller agreed to a return. However, ebay then informed me that seller then said they couldn't buy a return label for me to return it. Ebay said for me to contact the seller. I am not able to do this - I get an 'oops' message and his address is in chinese anyway. The seller is no longer active on ebay, they have no account now. Ebay said I could ask them to step in from today, 23rd October, but I can't find this option and keep going round in circles. Can anyone please help?
If you click on Purchase History to the left of the screen on your My eBay page then when you scroll right down to the bottom of the page you should see a section entitled "Returns And Cancelled Orders." You should see the item in question there, along with the option to escalate the case to eBay. If this is not happening then contact eBay Customer Services and speak to somebody over the phone, explaining what has gone wrong and that you need to escalate the case to eBay to make a final decision on. If you make a note of the Item Listing Number then give that to the eBay representative that you are talking to and explain that you have been trying to escalate the case in order to force a refund, but cannot find the option to do so. If you do that then eBay should be able to sort the problem for you; however, given that the seller is no longer a registered user they'll probably refund you from their own coffers and then chase the seller for the payment.
In the event that eBay are of no use in relation to this matter then log into your PayPal account, locate the transaction there and open an Item Not As Described case against the seller via PayPal. PayPal allow buyers one hundred and eighty days from the date of payment to open a case so you should have plenty of time left.
If you do have to go down the PayPal route make sure that you escalate the case after two days but before the twenty day cut-off point. PayPal tend to check cases far more closely than eBay do so you stand a good chance of being able to get your money back again if you do have to open a PayPal case; however, if you don't escalate the case within the given time period and allow the case to time out then you will not be able to open another one, in which case it is likely to prove to be virtually impossible to get a refund from the seller.
