Question about buying a "spares or repairs"

Hi, I recently bought an iphone under the above heading. I messaged the seller asking questions about the item, like " is the phone icloud locked", " is it the original home button", to which the seller responded that it would work like " A new phone", however the phone IS icloud locked and has quoting that the phone was "spares or repairs"!

What is the point of asking specific questions to a seller when they don't tell the truth?

Given that the seller listed the phone as Spares or Repairs - which would be an obvious indication to anybody with a grain of sense that the phone doesn't work properly, if at all - the seller was more than likely just being sarcastic when you asked him whether it was locked and had the original buttons on it and he said "It'll work like a new phone."  If you were looking specifically to buy a faulty phone listed only for spares or repairs then it seems a bit pointless to ask whether or not it's icloud locked, as if the phone doesn't work properly - if at all - then it would make no difference whatsoever as to whether it was locked or not.

With regards to the question as to whether the phone had the original home button, didn't the listing have sufficient photos for you to check out and get a closer look at the buttons to see whether they were the original buttons or looked as though they had been tampered with and replaced at some point?  To be honest buying a non-functional phone with the expectation that it'll work like a new phone seems somewhat illogical to say the least.  If you really want a new phone then the best option would be to start saving your money up, then once the current lockdown restrictions are lifted and mobile phone stores are also allowed to re-open then pay a visit to one of the high street stores that sell mobile phones and buy a brand new phone instead.  At least that way once you've found a phone you like and want to purchase you can rest assured that you're getting a fully functional phone with no problems whatsoever, as well as a valid guarantee that you can use in order to get a replacement phone in the unlikely event that the phone develops a fault and stops working before the guarantee runs out.

As for the question "So why have a message section, surely the buyer has a right to ask pertinent questions that the seller should truthfully answer?" this is actually supposed to be used for sensible questions.  If you had read the listing closely enough to notice that it was listed as Spares or Repairs then I can't see why you were expecting to receive a fully functional phone as a result...  Smiley Frustrated

Selling for spares or repairs is the best way to honestly describe an item that doesn't work. Sellers are under no obligation to describe what does and doesn't work, in fact it is advisable not to go into too much detail as that would give unscrupulous buyers ammunition to claim a refund.

It's always best to assume the worst and then you can be pleasantly surprised if you find some functions are working.
