If I pay for a horse trailer with cash upon collection, am I protected if it's not road worthy?

HI,  If I buy a horse trailer and pay for it with cash on collection, am I covered incase the trailer is faulty?  Should I take someone with me to check it over before I bid or should I take someone with me to check it over when I collect it and before I hand over the cash?  Thanks, hope someone can help me asap

Hi

On Ebay that horse trailer is classed as a vehicle and you have no protection on Ebay or Paypal so you will have no protection at all.

In addition you have no protection through Ebay if you pay cash on collection.

You really must take someone with you who knows about horse  trailers and is qualified to check it all over fully before you hand over your cash.

Thanks for that advice. How is it a vehicle when it does not have an engine? Are all trailers classed as vehicles?

Well Ebay class a caravan as a vehicle as well and they do not have engines either 😞

In your case, horse trailers, can be put into several categories. Cheapest option for a seller is to class it as a vehicle which allows the cheapest option at £19.99 or auction (£14.99) + FVF (max £45).

The trailer can also be listed in non vehicle categories such as Sporting Goods > Equestrian > Horse Trailers & Horseboxes > Trailers where it is free to list but 10% FVF. (max £250)

As mentioned, there is no protection for a buyer if bought as a vehicle, but if bought as a non vehicle,???

Thanks for the comments above, but can an admin confirm that in general just for advice, that if you pay for something with cash and not paypal, does this affect your ebay rights as a buyer after the purchase? On anything, eg furniture?

If you purchase for cash then you have zero protection by Ebay or Paypal.

Saying that the above does not affect your legal statutory right to take someone to Court.
