I started a return and sent the goods back, but today I received the item back saying ' adressee has gone away'.
What do I do now? How do I get in contact with eBay directly to resolve this matter?

You don't need to contact Ebay. Just escalate the return request to them on the date shown (it may not be possible yet, as sellers have a certain number of days in which to refund after tracking shows delivery or attempted delivery), and Ebay will force the refund.
