Am I the only one who is disappointed with the lack of speed with which some sellers dispatch items? Some sellers take 4 or 5 days
or more to dispatch items. All well and good for sellers of unique used items but eBay shops should be careful. I can buy new items as quick and cheap on Amazon and often have next day free delivery.
Ok i shall answer for myself....
My despatch is currrently set at 5 days.
1. I work full time and will continue to do so in the new lockdown and due to the nature of my job i often have to work late
2, Due to the pandemic delays generally are to be expected from carriers so if my items are delayed then i can get a very damaging defect on my account.
3. I cannot pander to the "i want it yesterday brigade" if they do not like my despatch time then dont buy from me
Saying the above usually i can and do post within a couple of days. If i state 5 days and the buyers get their item much sooner then they are well happy. Basically it all depends on a sellers personal circumstances as to how quick they can post items out to Buyers.
Another point i should have added......in the current pandemic i am trying to cut down the amount of times i actually go to the Post Office. I find that some of my buyers take a day or two to pay nowadays which is fine by me. I only chase for payment after say 3 days and if i am waiting to go to the Post office.
All listings show how quick seller posts item.
You can't compare ebay & Amazon, ebay is full of 1000's of individual sellers all with their own postage methods.
I wish people would read what I said: I differentiated between individual sellers and shops.
where exactly did you do that?
Dispatch time and expected delivery is a on every listing, so if you don't like the times don't buy.
Not all dispatch times mean what they say, I have a dispatch time of 3 days, but always post within 24 hours, this is partly to avoid unnecessary late delivery marks on my DSRs which can seriously harm selling and came about when unable to drive for 6 weeks and had to rely on neighbours to post.
Works well and have left it that way, which delights many buyers when they receive items, next day on occasions.
You can only be disappointed when a listing advises that dispatch will be within 1 or 2 days, for example, and the seller breaches the contract and ships 3, 4 or more days later. Apart from that, there is nothing to be disappointed about. So yes, you probably are the only one.
Many listings - mine included - have a longer processing time stated on them to lower the risk of getting Item Not Received claims opened too soon by impatient buyers, and of getting damaging defects when a buyer hits the 'not delivered on time' button when leaving feedback. Selling on Ebay is extremely tough (Ebay punishes the seller when items arrive outside of the carrier's estimated delivery time - there is no leeway), so sellers are forced to do this to protect their accounts and livelihoods. But if you read the listing description, you'll generally see that they ship same or next day. I certainly do (I'm a business seller on another account).
If you don't like that some listings advise a genuine longer dispatch time, don't buy. No-one's holding a gun to your head. Simply log out, and pop over to Amazon.
Not that deliveries are any quicker over there. I refuse to do business with that company, but my partner bought a pair of shoes a week ago, with same-day dispatch and free express delivery. The order was certainly dispatched same day, but there was no indication whatosever that the shoes were coming from an Amazon warehouse in FRANCE. He only discovered that when he checked the tracking number yesterday to find out where the heck his order had got to.
