eBay Open UK is back for 2024

I know this is on the front page but maybe people havent seen it.

Birmingham 12th of September.

I went last year and I'd say its great, even for a business seller who has been around for a while, you can enroll in smaller seminars on certain topics which may help with sales and you can ask questions as theres only around 20/30 people in them unlike the main hall which has hundreds.

Also a good time to catch some of the bigger bosses from eBay who claim that we are the lifeblood of eBay and sadly have no knowledge of any issues when you bring it up even though its passed onto the relevant teams. If anyone went to the Roadshows I personally would say its a totally different vibe, this is far from the timeshare sales pitch that was.

I'm aiming for it. I went to a smaller one in Leicester. We could do a business board meet up for those wanting to put a few faces to names... revive a few arguments even 😃

It says arrive 9.30 onwards for 10am start.. It goes on to 7.30 but I've booked an earlier train back due to logical direct train times.

I've been to a couple and always feel they've been worth the effort.

As has been mentioned its 10am start but if you cant get there till 11ish I'd still recommend, the first 30/45 minutes will most likely just be a speech from whomever is highest manager there telling us how well eBay have done and what they plan to do. Its the seminars which I believe are the best part of the day, if youre local and can only gt to 2 or 3 of them I'd recommend, 90% of it is common sense but thats the majority of the stuff even long term succesful buyers miss and then they mention it and you feel an idiot for not thinking of it (or atleast thats what I have found).

Every days a school day, always a good thing

Its a drive and 3 trains so need to calculate it but being around for 11 ish could work with an early start

Do you register for the seminars on arrival or before?

Last year you had to register before, I didnt know this so wasnt registered for any but if their are not full you are allowed in, obviously better to register before, but it doesnt look like its open to that stage as of yet.

Its a hotel stay over for me, but I include it in a buying trip, don't think eBay know the north of England or a full country exists above us this year.

The thing to look out for and get in early on is the 1-1 sessions.  They run from start of day until late afternoon usually.  Its time running through your account with an experienced set of eyes.   These tend to book up quickly and fresh eyes focused on just your account I find really beneficial.

@ojewellery

Are not these "1 to 1" session just Ebay telling you to promote more and take YOULEND ect?

I've been to a roadshow, three eBay opens and managed to book 1-1's at all of them.  No one has ever mentioned You Lend to me, not once.

They have discussed promoted listings standard and advance, talked about my campaigns and how I was finding them, offered to put me intouch with the advertising team and even suggested I end campaigns that weren't performing.  But I've never felt pushed to up percentages or go out of my comfort zone.

At the listing optimisation session, they always appear to run a version of, they talk about priorities - the analagy was building a house and starting with good foundations as your first priority - thats great photography, lots of images, an optimised title, using the specifics and writing a thorough description, setting up your business policies, researching price.  They really  emphasised do this before considering offers and promoting.  It was from one of these sessions, two years ago again at Birmingham, I first picked up on the new don't keep listings that haven't sold in 90 days element to the algorithm.

When you book a 1-1 you can write some notes on area's you'd like to discuss - I believe this helps with who is allocated to be your advisor.

All have been well worth my time and I haven't spent an extra penny because of any of them, I've actually saved.

I consider myself an eBay wrinkly, I've been buying on the platform since pregnant with my eldest child who is about to turn 21, we had a family account back then, so I think I reasonably know what I'm doing.  Yet, each time I come away with a few golden nuggets.  For example, I used to have multibuy and order discount promotions running.  But the way things work multibuy always gets visibility priority.  So I was better off turning off multibuy to give order discount a chance to work - so buy the necklace get money off the coordinating pieces ( a tempting offer) rather than buy several of the same necklace (a less likely to tempt offer).

Last year I had a guy chat to me about organic marketing and it was really interesting and got me to thinking in a different way.  He talked about what jumped out from my listings and information I should highlight and what I could include that would help entice people.  Its very self indulgent to have someone who really understands the system give you some of their time to focus on your business, not a generic example, pulling up your actual items infront of them and being able to observe/ talk through their reactions and recomendations.

The one that was least effective, but still worth it, was at the end of the day.  I'm generally a bit informationed out by end of a learning day and 1-1 can be quite intense.  So because of that I'd rather book a morning session.

Never get one, its one of the annoying things eBay rarely do so you just have that tiny bit of worry that you turn up and you havent been added to the list and no way of confirming you have registered, doesnt help that they send you 5 emails after you've registered asking if you want to go.

I know in the weekly chat they said you didnt need to book in for any of the seminars or anything but has anyone seen any 1 to 1 meetings where you can book? I'll phone customer services and ask them if nobody has seen anything as somehow got concierge so might as well use them.

The events team are busy at the Jewellery show in Olympia today (I went yesterday) - so hopefully the full information will be out when they've recovered from that.

Maybe ebay can explain how you compete with power sellers who are pretty much giving stuff away ?

Just a heads up they have just sent out an email with a link to a fancy new app where you can book your 1 to 1 and see the agenda, you can star certain events but I dont know if that means they have limited space or not. Another great addition they seem to have a list/pictures of all staff that are going so if you have questions for certain departments (hello backend team who never reply to feedback/suggestions/issues) you know who you are looking for at the event.

If anyone else finds anything good on the app feel free to drop it in here for everyone.
